EDDIE BLACK, 14 ONE OF YORK COUNTY’S MOST BELOVED AND 15 RESPECTED LEADERS. 16 17 Whereas, we were all saddened to learn of the death of Eddie 18 Black of York County on Saturday, June 10, 2000. He was a 19 successful businessman and Chairman of the Regional Council of 20 Chambers; and 21 22 Whereas, the huge crowd attending Monday’s graveside service 23 for Eddie Black was a living testimonial of the impact he had on 24 his beloved community and the county at-large; and 25 26 Whereas, born in York, he was a son of Polly Black Rodgers and 27 the late E. C. Black, a legendary public servant in his own right; 28 and 29 30 Whereas, Eddie attended York schools and received an agricultural 31 degree from North Carolina State University; and 32 33 Whereas, he was the loving husband of Diane Myers Black; a 34 devoted father to his son, Robert Clark Black, and his daughter, 35 Jane Stockton Black, both of York; and is survived by two 36 brothers, Arthur Quinn Black and John Robert Black, both of 37 York; and 38 39 Whereas, Eddie Black began his family-owned business in 1986, 40 selling agricultural and landscaping equipment from 41 Massey-Ferguson; and 42
1 [1437] 1 1 2 Whereas, Eddie Black’s business required extended hours beyond 3 the forty-hour work week, but he still found time to assume 4 positions of leadership. Friends and colleagues had an 5 appreciation for the dual role he played as President of Black 6 Enterprises Inc. and community servant; and 7 8 Whereas, in his path through life, Eddie Black was widely known 9 for his quite and determined demeanor -- always striving to keep 10 the different factions within his community and county united; and 11 12 Whereas, Eddie Black served as past Chairman of the York 13 County Economic Development Board, the York County Zoning 14 Board of Appeals, and the Rock Hill Area Chamber of Commerce. 15 He was past President of the Greater York Chamber of Commerce. 16 Eddie was President of Farmer Mutual Insurance Company and a 17 member of the York County Cattleman’s Association; and 18 19 Whereas his death represents a tremendous loss to York County 20 and we want his family and many friends to know that they are in 21 our uppermost thoughts and prayers during this difficult time; and 22 23 Whereas, history will record that York County and the Palmetto 24 State are better because Eddie Black passed this way; and 25 26 Whereas, we, the members of the South Carolina Senate, express 27 appreciation for Eddie Black’s life and his contributions and he 28 will be long remembered and missed. Now, therefore, 29 30 Be it resolved by the Senate: 31 32 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 33 express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of 34 Mr. Eddie Black, one of York County’s most beloved and 35 respected leaders. 36 37 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 38 his wife, Mrs. Diane Myers Black. 39 ----XX----
