When we talk about profiles, 2 things I keep in mind for why we do anything: a.i. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Increase chances of being found when someone types something into the search box. Recruiters are significantly more sophisticated on how they search, but the main thing is: will your client’s profile come up on a search and how will they be found? On the 4th page or the 1st page? a.ii. Engage the Reader: Determine what are things that will jump out and have significant impact on client’s credibility and brand.

9. Current title. Use key phrases recruiters would be looking. If currently unemployed try “expert in” and “passionate about.”

13. Applications a. Four applications for everyone a.i. SlideShare: the most universal and really amazing for showcasing your message. a.ii. Google Presentations: It’s like a PPT, but you just put up one slide which has an embed video from on YouTube. Example: Walter Akana’s VideoBIO Linkedin.com/in/walterakana a.iii. BlogLink or WordPress: When you write a blog post, it pulls the blog post from your blog and puts it on your LI profile. a.iv. Box.Net – Stores documents that are essentially downloads. Examples: resume, references, white papers, case studies, “11 job search tips for 2011,” images in pdfs as well. b. Two applications if applicable b.i. Reading List by Amazon. IF the books are supportive of your brand. b.ii. TripIt –IF you have impressive travel schedule, great. But if not, don’t take up the 4-6 inches of space.

14. Experience and Education a. These are places to have opportunities to tell story more, and weave in keywords. Put it into experience section (the keywords). b. ASCII code: If you like the idea of having something that looks like a bullet point, find it on someone else’s profile, right-click and copy it, then you can paste it right into the text.

15. LinkedIn Groups a. You don’t have to show all of their groups on your LI profile. Be on-brand.
