The Sport for All Program Is Dedicated to Promoting Physical Activity and Fun for Children

SPORT FOR ALL INFORMATION SHEET March 2001

Sport For All is an exciting new program to promote increased physical activity and sport readiness among children in after-school and community settings. NASPE is pleased to provide Sport for All in cooperation with Human Kinetics Publishers and Sportime, International.

Experts recommend that elementary school age children be active at least 30-60 minutes each day, and an accumulation of more than 60 minutes and up to several hours of activity is encouraged per day. There is evidence that physical activity patterns are formed in childhood, and physically active children are more likely to become physically active (and healthier) adults than children who are more sedentary.

The Sport For All Program seeks to build on the natural curiosity and energetic activity of children to promote physically active habits that will last for many years. The activities included in the Program are age-appropriate, safe, and fun.

SportFun (ages 3-5), SportPlay (ages 5-7) and SportSkill Basic (ages 8-10) program modules are available. Training is available for Program Leaders in each module. Training covers age appropriate activities, age level characteristics, safety, inclusion, class supervision, risk management, facilities and equipment, and instructions for use of the Activity Packets. It will enable your staff to make good use of time and equipment and to focus on fun and safety.

Training for Program Leaders by the National Association shows the community that your organization values the welfare and safety of the children entrusted to its care. A member of the NASPE National Faculty is available to come to your site to train up to 50 activity leaders (a minimum of 20 is required).

Training for one module is conducted in a 6-hour workshop, with time for additional modules scheduled as needed by your group (a maximum of 3 hours). Contact NASPE for more information at 703-476-3483 or [email protected].

We look forward to working with you! SPORT FOR ALL INFORMATION SHEET March 2001
