Summer 2016 India Internship Program

Boston University School of Hospitality Administration and Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces have created an opportunity for SHA students to intern at one Taj location in Mumbai, India during Summer 2017. Students will work in the presitgious marquee location while learning front of house, banquets, and food and beverage skills from one of the most prestigious hospitality groups in the world.

When: Early June to mid-August. The internship program will be 8 weeks long. Students will then have the opportunity to travel throughout the country for two weeks after the internship program ends.

Where: Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Resort in Mumbai, India

What: Students will work approximately six days a week/50 hours per week. Overall, they will follow the local schedule for management positions. Work areas will include Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage, and Banquets.

Training/Mentorship: The Taj will provide its standard employee orientation, training and mentoring to Interns. Interns are expected to uphold standards of IHCL customer service, hospitality, professionalism and quality at all times and to follow all rules as applicable. IHCL will provide supervision of the Interns while engaged in internship activities.

Lodging: Accepted students will be provided with comfortable, safe, and convenient lodging for 10 weeks. Students will live with a fellow BU SHA student of the same gender. Housing will either be at the hotel property they are working for, or a nearby property.

Uniforms: Students will be provided with uniforms for work hours. Laundering of uniforms will also be provided. Meals: Meals will be provided during working hours which should compenstate to about two meals a day. Students will be responsible for additional meals and when they are not working.

Compensation: Students will receive a 15,000 Indian Rupees stipend. This converts to about $250 USD.

Safety:  Point of Contact: Both SHA and the Taj will designate one point of contact. The designated contacts will communicate with each other and with the Interns and use reasonable efforts to notify each other and resolve any grievances, problems or concerns that may arise. The Taj will also provide a local emergency contact for interns.  Car service: The Taj will make arrangements for Interns to be escorted to/from lodging for all late shifts.  Local travel: There are three mobile apps that work very well for using local cabs: Uber, Meru Cabs, and Taxiforsure. Students can also reserve very inexpensive car service with a driver that averages about $25 for 8 hours of service.

Costs  Flights: Flight costs up to $1,500 will be covered by the School. Students will work with School administrative staff to book flights.

 Visa: Students will need to apply for an Employment Visa. India Business Visas for all Citizens of United States and Non-US Passport holders currently residing in US are handled through Cox & Kings Global Services. SHA and The Taj will assist with necessary paperwork for Visa applications.

Application Process: SHA applications are due to Ahlea Isabella by Friday, November 18th at 5pm. Taj will select students to interview. These interviews will be done via Skype/video conference.
