IRISH CHAROLAIS CATTLE SOCIETY LTD. EMBRYO TRANSPLANT REGULATIONS

1. A calf born by Embryo Transplant (hereinafter referred to as E.T.) will only be registered in the herd book of the IRISH CHAROLAIS CATTLE SOCIETY LIMITED (hereinafter called I.C.C.S.) if all the requirements of these regulations have been compiled with.

2. Applications to carry out E.T. will only be accepted from a breeder who is a fully paid up member of the I.C.C.S. and who is the registered owner of the proposed donor female.

3. A breeder who makes an application to carry out E.T. will be deemed to have accepted each and every aspect of these regulations.

4. An application to register a donor female for E.T. must be made on Form E.T. 1 This form must be sent by post to the Secretary of the I.C.C.S.

5. An application fee is payable. This fee covers the administrative costs of each application and is not refundable. It may be adjusted from time to time in accordance with the consumer price index.

6. A breeder wishing to carry out ova/embryo collection must use an ova/embryo collection tem, which is officially approved by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

7. A breeder intending to use E.T. must notify the I.C.C.S. in respect of each donor female before commencing the operation (i.e. the super-ovulation of the donor). (a) He/She may be required to give the Society at least one week’s notice of the location, date and time of the flushing of the donor cow (b) The I.C.C.S. reserves the right to have an observer present at the time of flushing.

8. A DNA profile record in respect of the proposed donor female, from a recognised laboratory, must be submitted to the I.C.C.S.

9. The proposed donor female must be a pedigree animal registered in the main section of the I.C.C.S. herd book.

10. The proposed sire must be a pedigree animal registered in the main section of the I.C.C.S. herd book.

11. If the DNA profile record of the proposed sire is not already registered with the I.C.C.S, a DNA profile record certificate, from a recognised laboratory must be sent to the I.C.C.S.

12. The Pedigree of the proposed sire must not contain any ancestry in common with the proposed donor female at the parent or grandparent level.

Recipient Female 13. Each recipient must be identified and its age stated. This must be recorded on the I.C.C.S documentation mentioned below.

Embryo Registration – Transfer – Thawing etc. 14. Embryos must be registered with the Society by submitting a completed E.T. 2 form signed by both the breeder and the approved ova/embryo collection team. The completed form should be sent by the breeder to the Society within 14 days of the collection.

15. The relevant AI docket or DIY documentation must accompany part A of E.T. 2 when it is sent to the I.C.C.S. 16. There are no restrictions on the transfer of ownership of embryos and normal transfer fees are applicable. Changes in ownership must be notified to the Society on form E.T. 3.

17. The thawing and implanting of frozen embryo must be notified to the Society on form E.T. 4.

Procedures of Registrations of an E.T. calf (from dam registration in the main section of I.C.C.S. herd book) 18. A calf resulting from E.T. will not be registered in the herd book unless and until all requirements set out in these regulations have been compiled with.

19. An application to register an E.T. calf must be notified via the I.C.B.F. animal events recording book.

20. A DNA typing certificate from a recognised laboratory stating that the E.T. calf’s DNA type is compatible with that of its parents, must be lodged with the Society before the calf reaches six months of age. The calf’s registration in the herd book cannot be completed until parentage is verified by DNA typing.

Imports/Exports 21. There are no restrictions on the registered of calves from imported embryos provided: (a) appropriate documentation from the country of origin is submitted (b) appropriate procedures for registration of an E.T. calf is carried out (c) usual birth notification fee for an imported animal is paid

22. There are no restrictions on the export of embryos. When an exporter requires a special embryo certificate these will be supplied provided all the E.T. regulations have been compiled with. The fee charged will be decided by Council.

23. Breeders are required to notify the I.C.C.S. where any abnormal progeny result from E.T.
