Get Lots of We Are DSU Booklets and DSU Pens on Display on Main Reception

OPEN DAYS Arrival 8.30am  Get lots of ‘We are DSU’ booklets and DSU pens on display on main reception  Get a couple of DMU Open Guides from the events team (red polo shirts) for on reception  Log in to the reception computer and find the Open Day page on the DMU website

From 8.30am people will start arriving. On arrival they need to first go to the Library to register and collect their Open Day lanyard from DMU. A lot of people will want to go to the Welcome Talk at 9.30am this is on the 2nd floor of the Campus Centre. It is best to get their using the front staircase or lift.

Position yourselves as follows (it’s always good to swap around as the day goes on for variety)  2 on reception (at least 1 person must be on reception at all times)  2 positioned near the foot of the main staircase to give tours

TOURS  DSU is responsible for giving tours of the Campus Centre building in two capacities o Campus Tours As a student ambassador brings in a tour of people, a DSU staff member should jump in say hello and do a 5min tour of the building DO NOT MAKE THE TOUR TOO LONG! Give out a DSU booklet to each student. Follow the tour route below. o Families and Prospective Students Sometimes a student/family will have a few minutes free and you can give them a longer, less formal tour of the building  The DSU pop-up banners dotted around the union are there to be stop points and prompts of what to talk about.

Tour Route  Start at foot of the main staircase (take a load of DSU books with you) o What a students’ union is o £3million investment – building re-opened in January this year  Go up stairs and stand by the Voice, Activities, Support, Life vinyl o Talk about what DSU does can be split into these 4 areas  Walk to in front of the Advice reception (near Support banner) o Talk about Support . Advice centre . MyUniPal

. Ssh clinic briefly! Focus on run by DMU nursing students (a course DMU is famous for!)  Walk by the chill, relax etc pods and stand near Activities & Voice banners o Talk about Voice (course reps, school reps and representation) o Talk about Activities (societies, volunteering, sports clubs, Demon Media) . This is a great time to give out the We are DSU booklets as the list lots of the sports and societies  Walk by the exec officers vinyl o Talk about how they run the union – full time & part time officers  Walk to outside the new nightclub/Life banner o Talk about nightclub being last piece of the puzzle for the revamp – opening in April . InJUNCTION Wednesdays o Talk about non-alcohol based trips and events eg trips to Harry Potter, cinema nights o Talk about Milly Lane’s (and the free heat & eat) and SUpplies – every penny spent is re-invested back into your union  Thank them and walk them back down the stairs/hand back to student ambassador

LUNCH  Is provided by DMU in Trinity House (it’s a help yourself sandwich, crisps, drink and fruit/chocolate set up)

The Presentation  At 12.15pm there is a ‘How to get the most from your DMU experience’ talk given by DSU exec in Campus Centre room 2.01. The talk should last 25minutes  The Manager on duty should give the relevant exec(s) the memory stick with the presentation on and lots of We are DSU books to distribute  The Manager should ensure that the exec are there at least 10mins before the presentation  All full time exec are well practised in delivering this talk. OPEN DAYS  Part Time officers can deliver the talk alongside a full time offer – but should not do it in their place

CLOSE At 3pm you can start to pack away.  We are DSU booklets and pens go in the far corner filing cabinet near the Advisors desks  The memory stick should be put on Adele’s desk  3.30pm (or when the manager deems appropriate) staff can leave  DMU estates will lock up the building
