Jesus Christ, Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of with the Holy Spirit, in the the Father, Lord God, glory of God the Father. Lamb of God, Amen. you take away the sin of the world:

3 | PRAYER OF THE DAY MC O God, before whose face we are not made righteous by working at being right. Free us from the need to justify ourselves by our own anxious striving, that we may be abandoned to faith in you alone; through Jesus Christ. Amen

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD All sit FIRST READING A reading from Isaiah 49:8-16a Thus says the Lord: In a time of favour I have answered you, on a day of salvation I have helped you; I have kept you and given you as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages; saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out’, to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’ They shall feed along the ways, on all the bare heights shall be their pasture; they shall not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them down, for he who has pity on them will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them. And I will turn all my mountains into a road, and my highways shall be raised up. Lo, these shall come from far away, and lo, these from the north and from the west, and these from the

4 | land of Syene. Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the Lord has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his suffering ones. But Zion said, ‘The Lord has forsaken me, my Lord has forgotten me.’ Can a woman forget her nursing-child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. Hear the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

PSALM 131

1 O Lord my | heart is • not | proud: nor | are my | eyes |haughty,

2 I do not busy myself in | great | matters: or in | things too | wonder • ful | for me.

3 But I have calmed and quieted my soul * like a weaned child upon its | mother's | breast: like a child on its mother's breast | is my | soul with|in me.

4 O Israel | trust • in the | Lord: from this time | forward | and for | ever.

SECOND READING A reading from the first letter to the Corinthians 3:18-4:5 Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness’, and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.’ So let no one boast about 5 | human leaders. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all belong to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they should be found trustworthy. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself. I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore do not pronounce judgement before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive commendation from God. Hear the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

GRADUAL HYMN: 452 ‘God of Mercy, God of Grace’

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION All stand Cantor Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia. The Word of the Lord is living and active; it probes the thoughts and motivates our heart. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia. . Deacon The Lord be with you. And also with you. A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew 6:22-34 Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ.

‘The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! ‘No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink,* or about your body, what you will

6 | wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, “What will we eat?” or “What will we drink?” or “What will we wear?” For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ‘So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today. This is the gospel of the Lord, Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

SERMON ~ Fr Neil Vearing The Creed MC Let us together affirm the faith of the Church: (All stand) We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary

7 | and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE MC (All sit/ kneel) Let us pray for the world and for the Church. Periods of silence may be briefly kept for personal prayer. Each petition ends with this response: Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, 8 | now and for ever. Amen

9 | THE GREETING OF PEACE All stand Celebrant We are the body of Christ. His Spirit is with us. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. THE PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS Preparation of the gifts of bread and wine at the altar.

OFFERTORY HYMN: 447 ‘Lord your Almighty Word’

The people's gifts of money are received. The Prayer over the Gifts is then said.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS Celebrant Blessed are you Lord God our Father; through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offering for your glory and for the service of your kingdom. Blessed be God forever. Amen

INVITATION TO HOLY COMMUNION All communicants of other churches are invited to join us in the sharing of Holy Communion. If you are not a communicant we encourage you to come forward for a blessing. Please indicate your desire for a blessing by holding your hands behind your back as you kneel or stand at the Altar Rail.

THE THANKSGIVING

Celebrant The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. All glory and honour be yours always and everywhere, mighty Creator, ever-living God. 10 | We give you thanks and praise for our Saviour Jesus Christ, who by the power of your Spirit was born of Mary and lived as one of us.

By His death on the cross and rising to new life, he offered the one true sacrifice for sin and obtained an eternal deliverance for his people.

Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and singing: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Merciful God, we thank you for these gifts of your creation, this bread and wine, and we pray that by your Word and Holy Spirit, we who eat and drink them may be partakers of Christ’s body and blood.

On the night he was betrayed Jesus took bread; and when he had given you thanks he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,

‘Take, eat. This is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’

11 | After supper, he took the cup, and again giving you thanks he gave it to his disciples saying, ‘Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ Celebrant Let us proclaim the mystery of faith,

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again Therefore we do as our Saviour has commanded: proclaiming his offering of himself made once for all upon the cross, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming again, we celebrate, with this bread and this cup, his one perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.  Renew us by your Holy Spirit, unite us in the body of your Son, and bring us with all your people into the joy of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, with whom, and in whom, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, we worship you, Father, in songs of never-ending praise: Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD As this broken bread was once many grains, which have been gathered together and made one bread: so may your church be gathered from the ends of the earth into your kingdom.

The priest and sanctuary party receive their Communion 12 | AGNUS DEI

Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us your peace.

INVITATION The gifts of God for the people of God. Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The people receive Holy Communion. As the sacrament is delivered the communicant responds Amen.

PRAYER AND SENTENCE AFTER COMMUNION

Celebrant All stand We rely on your constant love, O Lord; we will be glad, because you will save us. We will sing to the Lord, because he has been good to us. Psalm 13.5-6 TEV Let us pray, Living God, in this holy meal you fill us with new hope. May the power of your love, which we have known in word and sacrament, continue your saving work among us, give us courage for our pilgrimage, and bring us to the joys you promise.

13 | Father, we offer ourselves to you as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ our Lord. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen.

NOTICES GOD’S BLESSING Celebrant May God, who in Christ gives us a spring of water welling up to eternal life, perfect in you the image of his glory; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be amongst you and remain with you always.
