Victoria Labor Day Invitational

VICTORIA LABOR DAY INVITATIONAL 2010

The 60th Annual Intercity Invitational was hosted by the Victoria Chinese Golf Club over the Labor Day Weekend. There were over 100 golfers and guests attending the festivities on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Mother Nature was kind with great golfing weather for practice rounds on Friday, September 3 followed by the 36-hole medal play event on Saturday and Sunday.

The four intercity clubs rotate in hosting the Labor Day weekend event. In 2011, it will be the Seattle Cascade Club followed by Vancouver and Portland in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Tournament Chair Gorman Lee and Co-Chairs Cathy Wong and Sadie Guthrie and their energetic committees presented an excellent program for the visiting golfers and guests to enjoy. Victoria has much to offer for those who came early or stayed longer to take in the sites in Victoria and Vancouver. The events included a reception at the Coast Victoria Harbourside Hotel where early arrivals could register and enjoy the delicious hors d’oeuvres. The goodie bags were so full of goodies, players were excusing themselves to drop the bags off in their rooms before socializing and eating. On Sunday, the Awards Dinner was held at the Don Mee Chinese Seafood Restaurant where the guests were served a great banquet style dinner. First timer players for this event were pleasantly surprised to receive a gift from the reverse draw, so everyone went home winners.

Two great courses, Arbutus Ridge and Olympic View, where shotgun starts of 8:00am and 9:30am respectively were the golfing venues for the 90+ golfers. The Arbutus Ridge course was a good warm-up course and as reflected by the scores were friendlier than Olympic View course where an errant shot could result in a big number! The 36 hole event also hosted the annual Four City Team Tournament and the Federation sponsored Seniors Event. The winners of the five flights are listed below and the winner’s photos can be found on the Federation website www.chinesefedgolf.org.
