Pumpkin Launcher Must Be Able to Fit Into the Classroom

Extra Credit Marking Period 1

+ 10 points Design, build and test a pumpkin launcher mm/dd/yy 2pm: deadline for delivery to school + 20 points mm/dd/yy 2pm: successful pumpkin launch test (>30 cm – see specifications) + 20 points Write a report on your launcher mm/dd/yy 2pm deadline for submission Max +50 points/quarter

Design Specifications:  Pumpkin launcher must be able to fit into the classroom  Student(s) must be able to move the pumpkin launcher outside for the pumpkin launch test  Pumpkin launcher must be stand-alone (self-supporting)  Designed to launch small (1 kg, 10cm diameter) pumpkins  Must successfully launch a pumpkin 30cm beyond the front edge of the launcher

Restrictions:  No springs, hydraulics, compressed gasses or explosives.  1 or 2 students per pumpkin launcher

Report requirements: Must contain:  Labeled diagram of pumpkin launcher  Short description of 2 alternative ideas that were considered but not used for the design  Analysis of 2 features of the pumpkin launcher that were good ideas  Short description of one idea that could be used to improve upon the current design Typed One report per pumpkin launcher (max: 2 students)
