INVITED GUESTS AND VISITORS

* Via teleconference All Officers are serving the Staff Advisory Council term 2012 – 2013

Call to Order:

I. Review and Approval of the Minutes The meeting was called to order by the Chair and the minutes were approved with two revisions. Miriam Espinosa was marked as present for September’s meeting, and an addition was made to the minutes to note the question that was asked about having a separate category for employee health insurance that included the employee and one child rather than the employee and children. II. Guest Speakers Sylvester Johnson of the Presidential Search Committee was a guest speaker. He stated that the web form to give feedback to the search committee was open until 10/11/13. The committee is committed to finding a new President who embraces the changing future of higher education, and they currently have a large candidate pool to select from. The committee values the input of staff and hopes staff members will be engaged in the search process.

Margarita Ahumada gave a presentation on the PMBA program. This is a three year program with classes offered in the evenings, and the tuition waiver can be used for the program. The classes meet twice weekly on Monday and Wednesdays.

III. Report of the Chair, Alysia Loshbaugh

Open enrollment starts 10/16/13, and the question has been raised as to whether non-benefit eligible faculty can purchase Tulane’s insurance. The answer is being looked into and will be reported on at a future meeting. The University is aware that there is a problem with parking on the Uptown campus on days when there is a Board meeting, and a solution is currently being worked on. The deadline to nominate employees for the Staff Excellence Award has been extended until 10/18/13. IV. WFMO Liaison Lawrence Smith

V. Officer Reports

A. University Senate (Alysia Loshbaugh) No Report

B. Board of Administrators (Lawrence Smith) The financial viability of the University is good for now. The University has a big development campaign going on that will continue for the next few years. There is also a focus on how to improve retention so we can increase our rating. Our rating suffered a hit with the attrition of the Katrina class.

VI. University Senate Committee Reports

1. Benefits No report

2. Budget Review (Jennifer Huber, Sheri Bouyelas) No Report

3. Information Technology (Brian Lowe) Gibson will be changing next year. The new, internally staffed help desk is up and running, and everyone is encouraged to give them a try. They have an 82% call resolution. A new process will be rolled out soon for administrative accounts. The TU Staff Advisory Council Meeting November 12, 2013 Page 4

VII. SAC Sub-Committees

1. Election Committee No report

2. Electronic Technology and Information No report

3. Staff Appreciation Follow up needs to happen with the Primate Center to see what types of events they would like for this year’s appreciation event.

4. Staff Issues The staff resource guide form is getting redesigned and will be distributed to SAC members first once it is ready. After the form is perfected, SAC members will do info sessions with people in charge of different University systems to get everyone on the same page and make sure everyone understands that SAC is not attempting to replace any assistance that is already available. After this is done, the form will be rolled out to the public. This is a priority project, and the goal is to have it completed by November 2014.

5. Health and Wellness No report

6. Community Service Trina Beck will be serving as a coordinator of this year’s CASA toy drive.

7. Ad Hoc Student Relations Committee No report

8. Ad Hoc Constitution Committee No report

VIII. Old Business TU Staff Advisory Council Meeting November 12, 2013 Page 5

IX. New Business The CASA fundraiser was discussed. Trina Beck offered to serve as one of the coordinators this year. Several other SAC members offered to assist in various ways as they have always done in the past. The toy drive serves five local parishes and will launch in November. All toys need to be delivered to CASA by mid-December to allow enough time for distribution to the children.

X. Adjournment

Respectfully submitted, Jennifer Huber Secretary
