And the Oscar goes to…Project

Objective: Students must be able to present their Oscar nominations in a persuasive Power Point presentation.

You will be evaluated on the following:

1. Content-For Best Film/ Best Actor or Actress

a. Brief summary (3-4 sentences if possible on Power Point)

Please give credit where credit is due. If you are going to cut and paste the imdb.com storyline/ biography then make sure you CITE IT! Don’t risk losing points for this mistake. The summary should not be more than 4 sentences on the Power Point. The biography should include key points such as were the actor/actress was born, when did he/she start acting and why, what other movies has he/she been in, has he/she ever received an award, etc. YOU need to verbally summarize any other important details in order not to bore us with reading a whole paragraph on the screen.

b. 3 Convincing Arguments

Each argument should be distinctive. Your arguments need to be persuasive and clear. Here are some questions that may guide you to formulate your arguments:

1. How is my film/actor or actress better and different in comparison with the other nominations?

2. What specifically makes this such an interesting and appealing film/ performance to the general audiences as well as the film critics?

3. What are the critics saying? You may incorporate critics’ reviews into your arguments as well, but make sure you cite any direct quotes!

4. Best Film-- What can be said about this genre and its conventions? Has it ever been done before like in this film? Best Actor or Actress—What can be said about this type of performance and all its elements (such as character, tone, gestures, costume, etc.)? Has it ever been done before like in this film?

5. Best Film--What needs to be recognized in this film and acknowledged as a great contribution to film history? Is its unique plot, the musical score, the acting, the visual style, etc.? Best Actor or Actress—What needs to be recognized in this performance and acknowledged as a great contribution to film history? Give examples to support your argument.

c. Trailer (no more than 3 minutes!)

Trailer must be appropriate for the audience. Please make sure to hyperlink it on your Power Point. Best Actor or Actress-Select a scene in which the acting skills are evident in the film. And the Oscar goes to…Project

2. Aesthetics and organization-

The Power Point must be visually appealing. Images should be incorporated, such as film stills (at least 3).

Organization of slides should follow the order given in rubric and must be complete.

3. Collaboration-

All students must contribute equally and persuasively during the presentation. All members must participate in a timely manner.
