MISSION Our mission is to train physicians to become clinically superior obstetrician- gynecologists and leaders in women’s health care.

The residents are members of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital-Massachusetts General Hospital Integrated Training Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology. There are currently 40 residents in the four-year program. They participate in clinical activities at five institutions: BWH, MGH, Salem Hospital/North Shore Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Boston and Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN AY 2007-2008  Refined didactic curriculum with 1) summer ultrasound lecture series 2) laparoscopy and hysteroscopy workshops 3) ethics and patient communication skills curriculum.  Surgical skills curriculum with inclusion of one-on-one teaching with dry lab exercises and testing for postgraduate level-specific procedural credentialing.  Continued anatomy prosection workshops for advancement in understanding female pelvic floor anatomy.  Quality assessment project within the ambulatory department for practice improvement.  Strengthening of research projects guided by the Research Committee.  New website launched.  Hosted successful recruitment season with eleven top medical school graduates enrolled for the incoming PGY1 class to begin the RRC-approved expansion to eleven residents per year.

RESIDENT RESEARCH DAY – MAY 1, 2008 Each year residents present their research before an audience of peers and faculty and a visiting professor; this year Barbara Goff, MD, Professor and Director, Gynecologic Oncology, University of Washington, who spoke on Teaching and Evaluating Surgical Skills.

GOALS FOR AY 2008-2009  Add lecture series with postgraduate level programming and simulation curriculum at STRATUS.  Advance surgical skills curriculum with dry lab, simulation and observed skills credentialing.  Advance resident teaching skills with 1) surgical teaching didactics and observed surgical simulation experience and debriefing and 2) observed didactic teaching with incorporation of ABOG’s Lifelong Learning Program.  Creation of Boot Camp for early intensive skills training.  Development of Business of Medicine curriculum.
