Volunteer Opportunities and Application Form

Volunteer Opportunities:

Non-Frontline Training (16+): . Complete the SAVIS 1 day non-frontline training; . Spread awareness of sexual violence and the services of SAVIS throughout the Halton Region by staffing the information booth at least once per month: o The SAVIS booth travels to many different locations throughout the year (e.g. Malls, schools, Chapters, open houses, Burlington Women’s show, Seniors Expo); o The amount of time at a booth can vary between 2 hours up to 8 hours. For longer events multiple volunteers will be scheduled for different shifts; . Assist staff in the creation of new handouts or flyers for distribution and/or prepare booth packages for upcoming events; . Commitment: Staff 1 information booth per month for 6 months – 1 year. Frontline Training (18+) . Complete the SAVIS 40 hour in-class (with online components) frontline training; . Support survivors of sexual violence working on the SAVIS 24 hour support and crisis line; . Report support and crisis line statistics to the volunteer coordinator; . Assist group facilitators during SAVIS groups (e.g. Spanish women’s group, multicultural women’s group, Women’s Wellness groups at the Vanier Centre for Women in Milton); . Office reception/administration; . Commitment: 16 hours/month working on the SAVIS support line for a minimum of 1 year. Next training: Contact SAVIS for dates

All volunteers . Required attendance at monthly volunteer meetings. At the monthly meetings you will gather to interact with other volunteers and gain professional development through presentations from other community agencies or from the staff at SAVIS. (Every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6:30 PM-8:30 PM); . Attendance at SAVIS volunteer events such as the Annual General Meeting/Volunteer Appreciation event; . Support SAVIS in our fundraising and event initiatives such as the Take Back the Night Committee, LunaFest and/or bingo; . Office support (e.g. preparing resources for distribution, paper shredding). . Must not have accessed SAVIS’ client services within the last year (support line, accompaniments, counselling, groups etc.)

Each volunteer is required to:

1. Complete and sign this application.

2. Sign an Oath of Confidentiality prior to the onset of training.

3. Adhere to policies and procedures of the Centre.

4. Commit to staffing the SAVIS booth at a minimum of one event per month (non-frontline volunteers) or 16 hours on the SAVIS 24 hour support and crisis line (frontline volunteers)

5. Successfully complete SAVIS’ one-day non-frontline training or the SAVIS 40 hour frontline training
