Mrs. Sinkovich’s 2-Week Language Arts Unit: Highlights (Subject to change based on holidays, field trips, cancellations, etc.)

Week 1: Monday: Students receive new Spelling Contract; homework – skill page Students receive 6 new Reading Vocabulary words – Quiz on Thursday Graded Paper Envelope is sent home – needs to be signed and returned tomorrow Students receive new poem; Fluency Assessment on Friday If your child is the next “Poem Picker,” poem is due Friday

Tuesday: Students will select a leveled book. Begin reading at home, but make sure student brings the book to class every day. Spelling homework – 5x each Reading homework – study vocabulary for Thursday’s quiz, practice poem for Friday’s assessment, read leveled book

Wednesday: Spelling homework – Word Search Reading homework – Study vocabulary for quiz tomorrow, practice poem for Friday’s assessment, read leveled book

Thursday: Students listen to and discuss story in textbook; take Comprehension and Vocabulary quizzes Spelling homework – Scrambled Words Reading homework – practice poem for tomorrow’s assessment, read leveled book

Friday: Reading – Fluency Assessment on poem New poem is due from the “Poem Picker” Over the weekend suggestion – read leveled book, work on Spelling Options

Week 2: Monday: Spelling homework – skill page Reading homework – read leveled book

Tuesday: Reading - Some students will take the Comprehension and Fluency assessments on their leveled book Spelling homework – Sentences

Wednesday: Reading - Remaining students will take the Comprehension and Fluency assessments on their leveled book Spelling – No homework tonight, but I would recommend working on Options if none are done yet!

Thursday: Spelling Practice Test – Remember, students who miss 0 or 1 do not have to take the test on Friday, but may choose to do so to help their grade! Spelling homework – Any misspelled word on the Practice Test written 10x each, at least 3 Options, and study

Friday: Spelling Test Over the weekend suggestion – If your child did not turn in Spelling Options, get them done over the weekend. Remember, points are lost for each day they are late!
