Work in Groups of 2

Mechanism Synthesis and Model Verification The water bath must dump slowly ( to 90o) and return to horizontal quickly. The bath geometry (DC) may not be changed but the other link lengths and ground location must be determined. Make a folder on your desktop named groupnamesyn

a) Synthesize the 4-bar (use Solid Works sketch showing critical dimensions as in picture handout) Check the units (Tools, Options, Document Properties, Units) Sketch, Front Plane X,Y. Draw a full scale line for the bath link at each of the two extreme locations. (D to C’,D to C”) Dimension and fix each line. Draw a line from C’ to any point in space (A) and continue with another line from A to C” Drag A until the two lines make about an angle beta between them. Dimension the angle to equal beta degrees. Verify that D to C’ and D to C” didn’t change lengths. Scribe arc AC' onto AC'' to develop point P. Dimension as shown in picture handout. Capture a picture (View, Screen Capture) Download the Word template and rename it (groupnamesyn) http://homepages.uc.edu/~caldwelm/Courses/Mechanisms/synthesis_template.docx b) Develop a model in Solid Works. Check the units (Tools, Options, Document Properties, Units) Make the ground a rectangular box with AD x and y distances to hole centers. c) Verify the throw angle and beta with dimensions as shown in picture handout Move L4 near the 90o extreme Add a mate (edges of the L2 and L3 parallel) Change to front view. Sketch a “Point” in the center of hole A. “Sketch”,“Sketch”,“Front” ,“Point” select center of hole A,in left menu “Existing Relations”, delete “Coincident” Repeat for points in center of holes D, B”, C”. Delete the parallel mate and move L4 near 0o. Add a mate (edges of the L2 and L3 parallel) Edit the previous sketch. Put a point at C’ and B’ Draw lines and dimension as shown in the picture handout. Capture a picture and paste and crop in the Word document Save the Solid Works assembly with the verification sketch.

d) Submit by the end of lab today Zip the folder named groupnamesyn containing the Word document named groupnamesyn and 6 SW files.
