□ Please call Goulding’s Lodge ASAP to tell them know you are with the Albuquerque group touring Monument Valley on Sat. and/or Sun. 2/19 and 2/20 so they can charge the Navajo- guided tour price each day onto your room. Our tour rate is $75/person for Sat. (12+ hrs) & $45/person for Sun. (6+ hrs). You can pay this to the front desk by credit card or cash.

□ Email Kathy by Wed. 2/16, when the trip reminder appears online, to let her know if you (and any traveling companions) plan to join our group for dinner on Fri. 2/18, Sat. 2/19 and/or Sun. 2/20 at Goulding’s Lodge Restaurant, so she can make dinner reservations for our group. Notification will be posted for the week of Jan. 24th.

Trip prep//general information

□ Camera gear recommendations: Tripod, wide angle lenses, cable release, extra camera batteries and cards, battery charger

□ Personal item recommendations: Bring many layers: hats, gloves/mittens, warm socks, snow boots, long underwear, chemical heat packs, sunglasses, sunblock. Optional: crampons; skiwear. The vans have some heat and vinyl panels on the sides where we will sit, but dress to stay warm!

□ Food/snacks: There is a full service grocery store & bakery on the grounds of Goulding’s Lodge. For bf/snacks, plan on purchasing food the night before we head out for our shoots. Bring a thermos for hot liquids, if desired; coffee makers are in all rooms. Bring along snacks to sustain you while out in the field. You can also bring your own food/snacks from home.

Costs

□ Pay for your own gas, hotel, lunches, dinners, snacks! PLUS Saturday costs: $ 100

□ $100 covers: . $75 fee/person on guided van to many special access places on Sat. 2/19 (5:45 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.) . $15 tip/person traveling on Saturday van to full-day Navajo guide . $4-5 tip/person to Native American posing on horseback at John’s Ford Point . Several dollars/person to cover lunch for the all-day Navajo guide(s) staying with our group 12-13 hrs. Note: The tour charge is per person traveling on their van, payable directly to hotel front desk with your bill. They may wish to be paid for the Sat./Sun. tours when you check in.

Sunday costs: $ 55

Drive from ABQ to Monument Valley, Utah. Check in to Goulding’s Lodge (435/727-3231; www.gouldings.com) or other arranged lodging (The View Hotel: 435/727-5555; or www.monumentvalleyview.com); check on AAA or AARP discounts.

6:00 p.m. Optional: For folks arriving early to Goulding’s Lodge, the theater is showing a 25-minute film called “Earth Spirit” about the creation of Monument Valley.

Check-in Inform desk staff you are with the ABQ photog. group and the days you (and companions) plan to go into the Valley on their vans.

7:00 p.m. Meet promptly at Goulding’s Lodge restaurant for group dinner (it closes at 8:30).

8:15 p.m. Post-dinner group discussion of Saturday’s itinerary

8:10 p.m. Optional for night owls: See a John Wayne movie in Goulding’s theater.

But remember: Early to bed, early to rise . . . Saturday 2/19/11 *Sunrise: 7:05 a.m. *Sunset 6:05 p.m. *Moonrise 8:11 p.m. *Moonset 7:33 a.m.

This will be a full day of shooting, so bring everything you need with you!

5:45 a.m. Meet promptly in Goulding’s Lodge parking lot area for loading & pick up by Navajo guide(s). Bring all equipment, breakfast/snacks, and warm clothing you’ll need!

5:55-6:00 a.m. Travel to sunrise shoot (Totem Pole or other area). Possible morning photo stops include: Pottery Arch, the Mittens, Teapots, John Ford’s Point (with Native American posing on horseback).

11:30-1:00 LUNCH at Rim-Monument Valley restaurant (The View Hotel restaurant).

After lunch: Afternoon photo stops in Mystery Valley with guide

5:00 p.m. To sunset shoot at Teardrop Arch or other recommended site

7:15 p.m. Group drop-off: Goulding’s Lodge Restaurant for 7:25 p.m. dinner.

8:30 p.m. View slide show of Monument Valley (if room is available). 3 MONUMENT VALLEY TRIP ITINERARY

Sunday 2/20/11 *Sunrise: 7:04 a.m. *Sunset 6:06 p.m. *Moonrise 9:24 p.m. *Moonset 8:07 a.m.

5:45 a.m. Group pick-up at Goulding’s Lodge for half-day guided tour. Leave by 6 a.m. for guided photo shoot to restricted area for sunrise photo shoot. Possible morning photo ops: the special arches.

12:30 Group drop-off at Goulding’s Lodge.

12:30-2:00 LUNCH at Goulding’s Lodge restaurant

Afternoon and sunset shoot on our own.

7:30 p.m. GROUP DINNER at Goulding’s Lodge Restaurant

Monday 2/21/11 *Sunrise 7:02 a.m. *Sunset 6:07 p.m. *Moonrise 10:36 p.m. *Moonset 8:42 a.m.

5:45-6:05 a.m. Early checkout from hotel

6:15 a.m. Meet at Goulding’s Lodge parking lot to travel to sunrise shoot on the north view outside Monument Valley. Continue on to Gooseneck State Park and Dead Horse Point for photography.

Return home once done with early morning activities.
