BSTB OPORD (CS Chamber)
References: BSTB OPORD 08-17 (Range Density), Fort Riley Regulation 350-1, Chapter V
1. SITUATION: The battalion must conduct their annual Conduct Mask Confidence Exercise in accordance with FR Reg 350-1, Ch V. Training minimums for deploying units according to FORSCOM directs units deploying to overseas countries must have mask confidence training for all Soldiers within 12 months prior to departure. The mask Confidence Exercise is required for all Soldiers arriving or staying in the BSTB.
2. MISSION: 4-1 BSTB conducts Mask Confidence Exercise 20OCT-21OCT08. Ensure all Soldiers are familiar with the proper wear and PMCS of their protective masks. Successfully complete a series of exercises designed to stress the Soldier and the seal of their protective mask and ensure they are able to break and reseal their mask in a contaminated environment.
3. EXECUTION:

3.A.3. End State: All BSTB assigned personnel will conduct mask confidence training at the CS chamber.
3.B. Concept of Operations: The BSTB Soldiers will be supervised while conducting PMCS on their assigned Protective mask. Once complete, Soldiers will have nine seconds to don their mask. Then, a CBRN NCO will verify the seal on the mask. The CBRN NCO will monitor for one minute, for any fogging on the lens. Then the Soldiers will enter the CS Chamber and conduct various movements and exercises. They will stop breathing, break the seal, clear and seal. Then wait to be released from inside the chamber by the CBRN NCO.

3.C.2.A. Plan and run the CS Chamber (mask serviceability/PMCS station and confidence chamber only).
3.C.2.B. 25SEP08, OIC (SFC Gamio) executed a Range Brief with V6 for CS Chamber from 1500- 1545hrs.
3.C.2.C. NLT 17OCT08, conduct training on Masking Procedures and correct PMCS. This training provides Soldiers technical knowledge to enable successful reaction in a CBRN environment.
3.C.2.D. 20-21OCT08, provide two (2) Combat Lifesavers
3.C.2.E. 20-21OCT08, Provide instructors to conduct concurrent training for the battalion, on the following tasks: a. React to a CBRN Attack b. Detect Chemical Agents using M8/M9 Paper The point of contact for this task is SFC Gamio at 240-3512.

3.C.3.A. NLT 17OCT08, conduct training on Masking Procedures and correct PMCS. This training provides Soldiers technical knowledge to enable successful reaction in a CBRN environment.
3.C.3.B. 20-21OCT08, Provide instructor to conduct concurrent training for the battalion, on the following task: a. Proper Unmasking Procedures for the M40 protective mask The point of contact for this task is SFC Gamio at 240-3512.
3.C.4. B CO
3.C.4.A. NLT 17OCT08, conduct training on Masking Procedures and correct PMCS. This training provides Soldiers technical knowledge to enable successful reaction in a CBRN environment.
3.C.4.B. 20-21OCT08, Provide instructor to conduct concurrent training for the battalion, on the following task: a. Drink water in a chemically contaminated environment. The point of contact for this task is SFC Gamio at 240-3512.

3.E. Coordinating Instructions
3.E.1. Review ANNEX 1 for NBC.
3.E.2. CS Chamber OIC is Phase I and II certified.
3.E.3. 25SEP08, coordinated through S-4 for portable latrines at CS Chamber.
3.E.4. NLT 06OCT08, OIC construct range binders to include a copy of FR Regulation 385-12, PowerPoint Range Brief, Risk Assessment (CRM worksheet), range OPORD, safety brief for CS Chamber, certification tracking system and concurrent training plan.
3.E.5. CS Chamber OIC will coordinate for onsite Warm-Up tent if range CS Chamber does not have a shelter facility.
3.E.6. Uniform: CS Chamber execution the uniform is ACH, IBA with plates (minus DAPS), knee and elbow pads, eye protection, Nomex gloves or NBC Gloves and assigned protective masks. The only authorized downgrading is the COMPLETE removal of knee pads (it is not authorized to slide them down around your ankles) and wear of a patrol cap in place of the ACH.
3.E.7. No pregnant Soldiers are allowed to be with in 500 feet of the range.
3.E.8. Companies are responsible for MREs for their Soldiers.
3.E.9. Companies are responsible for the transportation of their Soldiers to the CS Chamber. Busses cannot negotiate the road to that facility.

3.E.11. Range OIC opens/closes CS Chamber IAW Range Control SOP and reports to BN S3 when range goes to “Red Direct.”
3.E.12. Upon completion of the range for each day, CS Chamber OIC sends closure report to BN S3 to include number of personnel qualified by company.
3.E.13. Primary means of communication between Ranges, Range Control and BSTB HQ is FM.
