Narrative Writing Assignment – The Odyssey

Odysseus is known for his many characteristics: cunning, intelligent, resourceful, steadfast, strong, courageous, noble, having a thirst for glory, perseverance, loyal, and confident in his authority and leadership.

After completing the graphic organizer on the bottom and back of this paper, write a well-organized 5 paragraph essay comparing an experience you have had (and your own epic heroism) to Odysseus and his travels. Basically, you are writing in the first person about a time where you demonstrated 3 strong epic hero characteristics and relating your narrative to that of Homer’s great epic. You must include 2 examples of dialogue (from your own experience, not from the epic) as well as 4 examples of appropriate figurative language.

You will be required to type the final draft with standard conventions – 12 point Times New Roman font with normal margins. You must write between 300-500 words. In addition, you must submit this outline for grading as well.

You should break your paper into three body sections that address one characteristic each. Your paper should have an introductory paragraph with an interesting hook and a solid conclusion paragraph that wraps up your narrative.
