Creating a Class List for ActiveExpressions from Easy Grade

Open EGP

Export the class lists. Go to File> Export

Select all of your classes, and select Student Names.

Click Export

Click Export records

[email protected] 2010 Save the file to your desktop, so it is easy to find in the next step.

Close Easy Grade

Open Excel

Open the class list by choosing File > Open. Choose the Desktop (where you saved your file)

In File type, choose Text Files. Find your file, and click Open.

[email protected] 2010 The import wizard will open. Make sure that Delimited is selected, and choose Next.

Make that Comma is checked. Choose Finish.

[email protected] 2010 Go to File Save As. Choose Desktop. In the Save as type area, choose CSV (Comma delimited). Name the file. Choose Save

When you see this message, choose Yes.

Close Excel. (It will prompt you to save again, you don’t need to save again)

Open Inspire

From the Edit menu, choose Student Database

Choose Desktop, and click on the file that you saved from Excel. Choose Open.

[email protected] 2010 Identify the fields by click where it says Not Mapped. Choose what each field should be.

After mapping the fields, choose Import

Add your class names

[email protected] 2010 Name each class, and enter your name. Then choose Submit.

Repeat for each class/section that you teach.

Now, click once on a class to select that class. Next click on the name of the first student in that class. Move your mouse to the last student, hold the shift key, and click once on the last student’s name. All the students in the class should be highlighted.

Click on the << button to move all of those students to the class. Repeat for each class, and click OK.

[email protected] 2010 You can add individual students later if you get new entrants by using the Add Student button.

If you don’t have Easy Grade, you need to figure out how to export your class list from your grade book program. If your grade book can export as a CSV file, you can skip the Excel step.
