USTA/MARYLAND ADULT LEAGUE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS JULY 16 – JULY 18, 2010

CONGRATULATIONS! The USTA/Maryland District has been notified that you are the captain of the winning team from your local area in the Adult League. As such, you are invited to participate in the USTA/Maryland District’s Adult League Championships. The information below should answer any questions you may have regarding this event. Host Hotel The Host Hotel will be the Sheraton Columbia Town Center Hotel 10207 Wincopin Circle, Columbia, Maryland, 410-730-3900. We have secured a special USTA rate of $119.00 per night. Please mention that you are part of the USTA group to obtain that rate. This special rate expires July 1, 2010.

Location We have secured courts at Wilde Lake Tennis Club, Wilde Lake HS, 10499 Cross Fire Lane, Columbia, Maryland and the courts at Olney Manor Recreational Park, 16601 Georgia Avenue, Olney, Maryland. See our web site for directions to this facility and court layout.

Captains’ Meeting & Registration The Thursday, July 15th meeting will be a webinar virtual on-line meeting. The meeting will start promptly at 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Since tournament rules and procedures will be discussed at the Thursday evening virtual on-line captain’s meeting attendance is mandatory, if the captain cannot attend, another team member must be present. You can attend either time frame. If you cannot attend, please have a team representative present on the call.

To register:

Roll call will be taken by NTRP level at the beginning of the on-line meeting. Your team must be represented.

Email or fax your team registration form by July 7th. Bring a signed detailed roster (see guidelines “How to print a detailed roster”) to the tournament on-site registration booth. All players must meet standard eligibility requirements (e.g. current USTA membership, minimum 2 local league matches) provable via TennisLink.

Captains will receive tickets for each team player to receive their local league award (tennis towel). At the tournament site the award desk will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Local league awards will not be awarded without a ticket.

The tournament desk at both sites will open at 7:15 a.m. Friday and Saturday mornings. All semi-final and final matches will be played Sunday at the Wilde Lake Tennis Club.

Matches The Schedule will be placed on our web site (www.maryland.usta.com) as soon as possible. Team lineups must be submitted to the tournament desk 1/2 hour before the scheduled match play. Failure to do so will result in a $50.00 cash fine. Lineup forms are available from this web site. Additional forms will be available at the tournament site. All team members must be ready to play 1/2 hour before the scheduled match time. If courts are available, per District Rule 11, we have the right to call a match to begin play 1/2 prior to the scheduled time assuming courts are available to do so. The tournament desk clock will determine the official time. Match Format Play will consist of #1, #2 Singles and #1, #2 & #3 Doubles. The 2.5 play will consist of #1 Singles and #1 &# 2 doubles. If you don't have a full line-up for any reason, you must forfeit your #2 singles or#3 Doubles and notify the tournament desk. There will be a 10-minute warm-up. Match play will be 2 sets with regular scoring. If any set reaches six all, a tie-break will be Played (first team to score 7 points, and must be up by 2 points). If sets are split, the match will be decided by playing a match tie-break, (first team to reach 10 points, must be up by 2 points). The Coman tie-break will be used throughout the tournament. The 3rd set tie-break will count as a 1-0 victory. Please make changeovers and breaks as brief as possible. If needed, the USTA tie-break rules will be used to determine the champions.

Rain Plan In the event of rain, report to the Tournament Desk, with the balls, for instructions on how to proceed. Write down the score and who was serving, and bring that information with you to the Tournament Desk. The tournament staff will have the option of revising the schedule and the tournament format, if necessary, in the event of inclement weather. See our web site for rain procedures.

Winners First place teams will receive USTA awards. Further, first place teams will have their team pictures taken, which will be posted on our web site. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE TOURNAMENT SITE UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR AWARDS AND HAD YOUR TEAM PICTURE TAKEN.
