Rosedale School Parent Council Annual General Meeting

Minutes

1. Meeting called to order at 7:11 pm. Identified quorum. One addition to the agenda by Rose Price – Heartland Agency Christmas Charity (3.3)

2. Cathy Scott made a motion to approve the minutes from the September meeting. Todd Houston seconded the motion. All present were in favour.

3. Principal’s Report – Please refer to attachment

3.1 Funding Requests

40 iPad covers with keyboards will cost approximately $2,600 + shipping + tax. Cathy Scott made a motion to change the approved amount from $5,000 to $3,000 (of casino funds) to cover the cost of iPad covers with keyboards. Sherilee Frew seconded the motion. All present were in favour.

Rosemary Nixon, a writer in residence, can come to the school to work with students on how to become better writers and also provide an in-service to the teachers for a cost of $2,500. We will postpone booking her until later in the year to allow for the 2017 casino allotment to cover the cost.

Ms. Hall has requested 30 Ukuleles at a cost of $1,400. Susanne Lang made a motion to approve this expense using casino funds. Sherilee Frew seconded the motion. All present were in favour. Ms. Hall has also a requested a “music rug” at a cost of $800. This expense was not approved.

Ms. Sargent has requested digital cameras for the photography class and yearbook club. Karen Thomas made a motion to approve $9,500 of casino funds for this. Sherilee Frew seconded the motion. All present were in favour. Mr. Finlay has requested 5 new MacBooks. This request will be revisited at a later date.

In Summary, to date we have committed casino funds for the following:

Paul Davies (social media expert) - $1,310

Agendas - $750

Ms. Popis’ Compost - $100

iPad covers + keyboards - $3,000

30 Ukuleles for Ms. Hall - $1,400

Digital Cameras for Ms. Sargent - $9,500

Total - $16,060.

3.2 PAT Results – Please refer to attachment

3.3 Heartland Agency Christmas Charity

Ms. Price requested we continue to support the Heartland Agency Charity, which helps families in need. Council is committed to supporting this charity, agreeing for our school to sponsor 4 families.

4. Treasurer’s Report

4.1 Rosedale School Council – Sherilee Frew reported the current balance is $6,225.

4.2 Rosedale School Association – Karen Thomas reported the current balance is $16,767. (Noting we’ve allocated $16,060 of this at tonight’s meeting). It is expected the December Casino funds will arrive in February 2017.

5. Volunteer Needs

5.1 Pancake Breakfast Wrap-up – Karen Thomas Please see attachment

5.2 Other Volunteer Needs Upcoming volunteer needs include transporting food from the Veteran’s Food Drive to the Legion. Robin Strathdee volunteered to do this. Also volunteers will be needed for the upcoming pizza lunch and helping to make booklets for the upcoming MS Read-A-Thon. We also critically require 7 more volunteers for the upcoming casino on December 14 and 15.

6. Other Business

6.1 CBE COSC Meeting – Susanne Lange – Please refer to attachment.

6.2 Other Fundraising Ideas – Mr. Finlay suggested having the Marketing Option raise money for the school. (This would have to begin in the 2017-2018 school year.) Other ideas included Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches and Kernels Popcorn on Friday afternoons.

6.3 June Planning Meeting – Richard Leslie and Mr. Finlay suggested our council meet in June rather than have the last meeting in May (as has been the case in previous years). The June meeting will be used to plan the following school year. As we now meet on the second Wednesday of the month this June meeting will be possible and council agreed.

7. Next Meeting – Wednesday, November 9th, 2016.
