Honors Sophomore English II Poetry and Drama Ms. J. Gillette 2010

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Curriculum consists of four strands: literature, writing, vocabulary, and grammar (usage and mechanics). The literature strand will consist of selected poetry and dramas Semester 2. The writing strand will include a variety of analytical, expository, and creative assignments. The vocabulary development strand is derived from literature texts. The grammar strand emphasizes usage and mechanics.

SKILLS INVOLVED: Understanding writer’s craft in a variety of genres Creative, analytical, personal, and synthesis writing Vocabulary development Application of literary lenses of analysis Application of grammar understanding through writing analysis

EVALUATION: 50% Process grades (Informal work through which student is developing knowledge. Think worksheets, reading quizzes, vocabulary work, rough drafts, short overnight writing assignments. This category also includes participation grades which are evaluated based on thoughtful contribution toward discussion as well as lack of distraction away from class atmosphere.) 50% Final assessments (Formal work that ends unit study. Think tests, essays, final draft of creative stories, projects. Out-of-class work should reflect editing and revision.)
