News and Notes from St. Stephen Lutheran School May 30, 2017

Kindergarten: Round-Up: Thank you to all who helped with Round-up. We had six prospect kindergarten families attend. They were very impressed with “Going Buggy”. The children are to meet by 6:40 to sing for the worship service this Thursday at 7:00 pm. We will host our annual picnic after the Olympics tomorrow, all are welcomed to attend. We are in need of a few more volunteers for Olympics.

1st & 2nd Grade News: Please look through the items your children brought home today. There are left over workbook pages for Language and spelling dictionaries. These are excellent sources for summer review, practicing using ABC order to find words in a dictionary, reviewing spelling words and just practicing reading. Their regular art folders are in there too. Please have your child wear tennis shoes for tom9orrow's Olympics. Please have your child at school by 6:40 pm Thursday evening as they are singing in the service. Their report cards, Dibels results, summer suggestions, Fine Arts portfolios and scrap book projects, jump rope for heart awards will be handed out after the service. Thank you for another school year with the blessings of parental support and encouragement. Thank you and God bless you and grant you a safe, relaxing summer!

3rd & 4th Grade: We will be singing Thursday night in the 7:00 service. Please meet by 6:40 (chimers by 6:20). We have two songs to run through. After the service please locate your child and their report card and any other papers they might be given after the service. Congratulations to Erich Schuchard for receiving 1st place in our forensics competition and Faith Wiedyk for her 2nd place. Thank you to Mr. Watson and Ben's Grandma for the awards. Stay close to Jesus this summer!

5th & 6th Grade News: We will sing for the Thursday night service. Please meet in Mr. Neumann's room by 6:40 (chimers by 6:20). Tomorrow is Olympics and picnic. We had a couple more math timed tests finishers. Caleb Brockway finished all his timed tests for the year along with Drew Wiedyk. Drew also broke Erin Hanan's record from earlier this year. He wrote 22 equivalent measure problems in 43 seconds. Dakota Schlorf broke an old record by Emma Vasher in 2011. Dakota wrote 40 improper fractions in 1.02. Sophia Watson also broke a class record from 2014. She wrote 40 addition problems in 1.06! Way to go!

7th & 8th Grade News: Wednesday will be our closing chapel service at 8:30. All are welcomed. We will stay after to rehearse for graduation night. Olympics will be held after that. There is still room to sign up to help with Olympics. If you are able to do so please see the sign up sheet outside of Mrs. Krieger's door. At approximately 11:30, depending on when the games are finished we will have the School picnic. All families are welcomed to attend. Please sign out with Mr. Loroff by the gym doors so we know everyone will be picked up. Graduation Service: The children are to meet by 6:40 in Mr. Neumann's room. Chimers please meet by 6:20. Following the graduation exercise, there will be a reception in the cafeteria for the 8th graders. 7th graders are asked to serve and help clean up afterward. Parents are welcomed to help as well.

Latchkey Bills: are going home today. Please try and have them paid this week. Thank you!!

SCRIP: If you would like to purchase cards for any of the businesses on the form, please send in your order with payment to the school. If you need another order form please check in the school office. For every gift card purchased the school receives a percentage depending on the business. I will place the orders every Friday, and the gift cards usually arrive by Monday. If you have any questions please call Mrs.Kemerer in the school office.

Mission Offerings: to date this year: $725.02. This year our offerings were sent to Family Ministry for Outreach.

Huron Valley Lutheran High School is sponsoring summer basketball and volleyball camps. These Hawk camps promise to be a fun experience for young athletes. The camps are designed to teach, develop, and refine the necessary skills for the various sports. Our basketball camp is open to boys and girls that are entering 3rd through 9th grade in the fall of 2017. Our volleyball camp is open to girls entering grades 5-8 in the fall of 2017. Each player will receive quality instruction and guidance on a daily basis from experienced, enthusiastic, and encouraging coaches. The camps will offer these sessions: Basketball – June 19-22 Grades 3-6: 9:00 -10:30 ($40.00) Grades 7-9: 10:30 – 12:00 ($40.00) Volleyball – Aug. 7-10 Grades 5-8: 9:00 – 11:00 ($40.00) Go to www.hvlhs.org and follow the link in the top right hand corner to register!
