“Biosafety Inspections, What to Look for and What to Ignore” Presented by Dr. David Pawlowski, UB Biosafety Officer

Dr. David Pawlowski is the Biosafety Officer for the University of Buffalo

Dr. Pawlowski trained as a microbial biochemist at the University of Buffalo. After graduation Dr. Pawlowski became a Senior Scientist for SAIC, contracted to the US Army, RDECOM, Edgewood Chemical Biological Center. In this position, he was responsible for the scientific aspects of multiple government and industry funded studies into the persistence and decontamination of bacterial pathogens. Dr. Pawlowski then moved to CUBRC as Senior Research Scientist where his duties included proposal, technology, and strategic business development, and regulatory compliance. Dr Pawlowski was also the primary investigator of record for the USDA/CDC permitted Joint CUBRC/SUNY at Buffalo Select Agent program.

In his current position as the Biosafety Officer for the University at Buffalo, Dr. Pawlowski is responsible for regulatory oversight and the safe conduct of biological research for over 200 Primary Investigators. Academically Dr. Pawlowski holds an appointment as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at D’Youville College.

Dr. Pawlowski has authored numerous peer reviews papers, was awarded the 2017 Knudsen Award by the American Biosafety Association (ABSA International) which is given for scientific contributions to biosafety, and has been an invited editor for multiple peer reviewed journals. Finally, Dr. Pawlowski has been awarded 2 US patents.
