GARDEN CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE ATHLETIC TRAINING—Tuition and book scholarships are available for students who are accepted into the athletic training program. BARTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE—SPORTS MEDICINE—The Barton County Community College Sports Medicine department is looking for individuals interested in joining our student athletic trainers’ staff while continuing their education in college. Thirty students, including returning sophomores, are selected to join the athletic training staff each fall semester. Each student receives a books and tuition performance award to help meet college expenses. A minimum of 12 semester hours, and an overall GPA of 2.0, must be maintained to renew both the student athletic trainer position and the performance award each semester. COFFEYVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE- KANSAS ENHANCEMENT SCHOLARSHIP— The Kansas Enhancement Scholarship is available to Kansas students. This scholarship is awarded to students who complete the application process and sign with a Coffeyville Community College activity group. The cost for the residence hall for 08-09 academic year is $4,796 for women and $4,235 for men. Students awarded the Kansas Enhancement Scholarship will pay only $2,000 a year. Most students awarded this scholarship and enrolled in 16 credit hours a semester will pay less than $1,500 a semester for room, board, loan of books, tuition and fees. COFFEYVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE—THEATRE—FORTY theatre scholarships are available for tuition and books for seniors. You do not have to be a theatre major or a performer to receive a theatre scholarship or audition. There are scholarships in the areas of ushering, backstage, and technical positions. QUESTBRIDGE NATIONAL COLLEGE MATCH-- is designed for high school seniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite facing economic challenges. Most College Match scholarship recipients come from households earning less than $60,000 annually (for a typical family of four) and have experienced long-term economic hardship. KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP DAY—Students must pre-register at http://www.engg.ksu.edu/scholarshipday by September 30, 2011. Eligibility to attend:  Composite ACT of 32 or above, cumulative GPA of 3.85 or above, and class rank in the top 10%. These students will receive a minimum $7000 per year, renewable for 4 years, with 3.5 GPA.  Composite ACT of 29 or above, cumulative GPA of 3.60 or above, and class rank in the top 15%. These students will receive a minimum $1250 per year, renewable for 4 years, with 3.5 GPA.

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY DANFORTH SCHOLARS—Candidates for the Danforth Scholars program are students who have exhibited a capacity for service and leadership, as well as academic excellence, and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum. We are especially interested in students who stand out among their peers for their maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, and commitment to community—qualities which embody the essence of the Danforths. Danforth winners may receive full or partial tuition scholarships. The scholarship is renewed each year for the duration of the degree program, provided the student maintains academic progress and upholds the high standards of character required of those in the program. Please express your interest in being nominated to Mrs. Stukey by October 1, 2011. You must have submitted an application for admission to Washington University to be nominated.

WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN SCHOLARSHIP—This award honors both male and female high school students who excell in academics, athletics and student leadership. MDCV can have as many applicants as meet the eligibility criteria. The link to the online applications is available at www.wendysheisman.com. Eligibility for application is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2011-2012 academic year who have at least a “B” grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. Completed nominations are due by October 2, 2011. The online nomination form must be completed by the student by 5:00 p.m. central time, on October 2. It must also be reviewed by a high school official by 5:00 p.m. on October 4, 2011. Each student applicant must have their online application reviewed and confirmed by a school representative. Thus, the students must complete their application and then notify their school counselor immediately, so that the review can be completed on time.

WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY’S DISTINGUSHED SCHOLARSHIP INVITATIONAL—Scholarship competition for about $500,000 in scholarships including two $48,000 Harry Gore Scholarships. To be considered for an invitation to this competition, students must complete the following by October 5, 2011: Submit, to the Office of Admissions, an offical high school transcript with a minimum 3.50 GPA, have a minimum ACT composite score of 24, or SAT composite of 1090, on file with WSU, and be admitted to WSU. Competition is November 11, 2011, you must be invited to compete, based on the above criteria. See Mrs. Stukey for more information.

WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING WALLACE INVITATIONAL —gives more than $250,000 to entering freshmen majoring in the field of engineering. Female competitors (with a 26 or higher Comp and Math ACT score) receive a minimum $1000 scholarship. Requirements: High school seniors interested in competing must complete the following by October 5, 2011:  Apply for admission and be admitted to WSU  Submit an official high school transcript (minimum 3.0 GPA)  Submit ACT scores to WSU

WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY KLOSE SCHOLARS FOR MATH AND SCIENCE TEACHER EDUCATION MAJORS- Three $25,000 scholarships, over four years. To be eligible, you must complete the following by October 5, 2011: be admitted to WSU with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and have an ACT composite of 24 or better; declare a major in a math or science teacher education program. AES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS—These scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This $500 award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. For more information or to apply go to www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline is October 7, 2011.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP. This is for the full time student who enrolls in a designated one- or two- year vocational program at various Kansas area tech schools/colleges, community colleges, KSU-Salina, several four year colleges, or proprietary schools. Only certificate and selected two year degree programs are included among the designated technical programs. Applicant must be a Kansas resident for at least one year, graduate from an accredited high school or GED program, plan to enroll full time in a designated vocational program in Kansas and take the designated vocational scholarship test. A $15 fee is required to take the test. The testing dates are November 5, 2011 and March 3, 2012. SIMON YOUTH FOUNDATION—Community Scholarship Program—The SYF Community Scholarship Program is available to any high school senior, living in a community that hosts a Simon property, who plans to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two– or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,200. Selection procedures include: the consideration of financial need, past academic performance and future potential, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, statement of career and educational aspirations and goals, and outside appraisals. PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS. This scholarship is sponsored by the Prudential Insurance Company and NAASP, The award is open to students in grades 5-12 (11-18 years of age). 1. Go to http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit, click on the “Apply Now” link, and follow the onscreen instructions. 2. Go to the “Certification” page and email the certification instructions to [email protected], or to [email protected], by October 25, 2011. 3. Print out the signature page of your application, sign it, have a parent sign it, then submit it to International Scholarship and Tuition Services by November 1, 2011. The top entrant from MDCV will be sent on for consideration for a state judging. If you are selected as an honoree you will be expected to attend the entire (all expenses paid) national recognition events in Washington D.C., in May.

DAVIDSON COLLEGE JOHN MONTGOMERY BELK SCHOLARSHIP—Up to eight Belk Scholars will be chosen in Davidson’s Class of 2016, each receiving an annually renewable scholarship equivalent to the college’s comprehensive costs: tuition, fees, room & board. In addition, each scholar receives two summer stipends (up to $3,000 per stipend) to pursue international study and other enrichment opportunities. You must notify the counselor’s office by October 27, 2011 if interested.

MCPHERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP- Students are invited to participate in this scholarship competition based on high school academic performance, personal resume, and letters of recommendation. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the following: essay written during the competition, personal interview, moderated round table discussion, and high school academic records. HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP. To qualify for this scholarship you must be enrolled as a full-time high school senior progressing toward graduation in the Spring/Summer of 2011. You must also have in place plans to enter college no later than the fall following graduation. It must also be your intent to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution. You may start your studies at a two year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution. It is preferred that you have a critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family). You must also have involvement in co-curricular and community activities and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Visit the website at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships. Deadline is October 30, 2011.

DEAUN JETER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—Scholarship is open to any Kansas graduating LD (Learning Disabled) student who can meet college or vocational/technical admissions requirements. Application Procedures: Application forms are available at http://ldakansas.org/documents/scholarshipForm.pdf or from LDA of Kansas, Box 4424, Topeka, KS 66604 (913) 272-0033. Responses to the questions on the application form may be answered in any manner: typed, handwritten, taped, etc. Applications must be accompanied by the following: a copy of the front of the applicant's current IEP, and a one page cover letter from a teacher, counselor or administrator answering the question, "Why do you think that this student should be awarded the scholarship?" Deadline is October 30, 2011.

COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM-- Applicant should be a U.S. citizen currently attending full time as a secondary senior anticipating graduation in the Spring/Summer of 2011. Your post secondary plans should include plans to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post–secondary school. You must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher at the end of your junior year. Children or grandchildren of employees, officers, or owners of Coca-Cola bottling companies and subsidiaries are NOT eligible. You can apply on line at www.coca-colascholars.org. Application deadline is October 31, 2011.

KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS— to apply for various KSU scholarships, go to www.ksu.edu/sfa. Deadline is November 1, 2011.

UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS SCHOLARSHIPS—go to http://www.admissions.ku.edu/scholarships/. The first stop for KU scholarships is the combined application for Admission and Scholarships.

You are eligible to be considered for freshman scholarships if you: have at least a 3.25 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale, have not attended another college or university after graduating from high school, submit a complete application by November 1. November 1, 2011 is the deadline for freshman scholarship consideration (summer and fall freshman applicants only).

INTEL SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH—Student must conduct independent science, math, or engineering research and then complete entry process. 300 students and their schools are recognized each year. Over $1.25 million is awarded annually, ranging from $5000 scholarships to the grand prize of $100,000 scholarship. For more information, go to www.societyforscience.org/sts. Deadline for first piece of application is November 1, 2011.

F.I.R.E.'s FREEDOM IN ACADEMIA ESSAY CONTEST-- Go to FIRE's website at www.thefire.org and familiarize yourself with FIRE and FIRE's issues. High school seniors graduating in 2011 and attending college in the fall are invited to enter FIRE's second annual "Freedom in Academia" essay contest. To enter, seniors should watch two short videos, then answer the essay question: In 700-1200 words, please discuss the videos you have seen and explain how these universities betrayed the purpose of a university and violated the constitutional guarantees of free expression. Focus on why such codes and practices are incompatible with higher education and why free speech is important in our nation’s colleges and universities. WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY Barton School of Business Scholarship Competition—Will be held on November 11th, 2011. Up to sixty academically talented students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting, business administration, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, international business, management, management information systems, or marketing will be invited to participate. Scholarship awards range from $250 to the $44,000 Clay Barton Scholarship. A student MUST participate in this competition to be considered for the $44,000 Clay Barton Scholarship. To be eligible, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.50, minimum Act Composite of 24, BE ADMITTED TO WSU by November 7, 2011, declare a business major and submit the “Yes! I Wish to Compete” form, available at www.wichita.edu/business, click on “Scholarships”. See Mrs. Stukey for more information.

COLLEGE WEEK LIVE SCHOLARSHIPS-- You can win a college scholarship just for attending CollegeWeekLive (an online college fair) this fall! They will be giving away $15,000 in scholarships this fall. To enter the contest: 1. Register for CollegeWeekLive 2. Create a video/picture/story/poem or any uploadable media to the CollegeWeekLive digital drop box along with a short description of your work. 3. Login to CollegeWeekLive Fall between November 2nd & November 8th.

WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP INVITATIONAL— 64 scholarships, ranging from $2400-$20,000. To be eligible, students must be interested in one of the following majors: jazz; music composition; music education; or music performance. You must complete the following before November 12, 2011: be admitted to WSU, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, declare a music major, complete a scholarship application at www.wichita.edu/musicscholarships, and complete an audition reservation form at www.wichita.edu/musicauditions, setting up your audition for November 12, 2011.

THE HAGEN SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION AWARDS—provides scholarships for responsible, high- achieving and self-motivated students graduating from public high schools located in Missouri and Kansas counties having fewer than 50,000 residents. Amount of scholarship varies from $2000-$10,000 per year, and can be renewed for three additional years, if qualifications are met. About 20 new scholarships will be awarded to Kansas students this year. Amount depends upon unmet financial need of the recipient, based on college’s Cost of Attendance and student’s Expected Family Contribution from FAFSA. Students must have completed the FAFSA and include the SAR in their application packet! More information is available at www.hsfmo.org, and application can be downloaded from this site after September 1, 2011. Application packet is due November 15, 2011.

FORT HAYS STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS-- FHSU has simplified the application process by consolidating all university scholarships into one Scholarship Application on-line. Some FHSU scholarships have a priority deadline of November 15, 2011. There is a final deadline of February 15, 2012 for some scholarships, and June 1, 2012 for others. You are encouraged to apply early to avoid missing an early deadline. Applications sent after listed deadlines will not be considered. Go to http://www.fhsu.edu/admissions/freshman-scholarships/.

WASHBURN UNIVERSITY GARVEY COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIP. The Garvey is a Washburn-only scholarship with approximately 45 scholarships awarded based on the results of the Garvey Exam. The award amount ranges from $500-$2000 annually. High school seniors are eligible if they have at least a 3.25/4.0 GPA and To take the exam, Washburn must have your completed application for admission, a $20 application fee, and your official high school transcripts and ACT scores. The Garvey Exam will be given three times in 2011. The first and third exams will be given on Nov. 19, 2011 & Dec. 7, 2011 in Topeka, Kansas. The second exam will be given in Hays, Kansas City and Wichita on Dec 3, 2011. Student must be registered for the exam they want to take; the exam can be taken only once. NASSP/HERFF JONES PRINCIPAL'S LEADERSHIP AWARD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM-- High school principals, assistant principals or their designee may nominate one senior per school for this award. Nominees should be in the top 20% of their class and demonstrate leadership. If there is a candidate with strong leadership qualities that is not in the top 20% of the class, he/she can still be nominated. Students must be admissible to the University of Kansas and be entering freshman for the upcoming fall term at KU. VOCATIONAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP. This is for the full time student who enrolls in a designated one- or two- year vocational program at various Kansas area tech schools/colleges, community colleges, KSU-Salina, several four year colleges, or proprietary schools. Only certificate and selected two year degree programs are included among the designated technical programs. Applicant must be a Kansas resident for at least one year, graduate from an accredited high school or GED program, plan to enroll full time in a designated vocational program in Kansas and take the designated vocational scholarship test. THE ART INSTITUTES BEST TEEN CHEF CULINARY SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION—Competition is open to graduating high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Complete entry form; include a copy of your high school transcript; write an essay, with a minimum of 250 words, that addresses why you’d like to be a culinary professional, who inspires you, and the reason you’d like to attend The Art Institute where you are entering the competition. You also need to include a notebook that includes a menu with descriptions for a two course meal—including appetizer, soup or salad, and a main course with sauce, garnish, vegetable, and starch. Please include detailed recipes and directions for each course. Also include an image of each course and an image that includes all the courses. Based on entry information and materials a select number of winners will be chosen to advance to the local cook-off competition. Approximately 10 semi-finalists from each participating Art Institute will be chosen to compete in local cook-offs. The first place winners from each participating school will compete for tuition scholarships and the coveted title of Best Teen Chef. ROBERT C BYRD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM— We recently received word from the U.S. Department of

Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education, Division of Higher Education Programs that the Federal Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program has not been funded in the Federal 2011 budget. This means that Kansas will no longer receive a federal grant to fund student scholarships through this program. Unless Congress acts to approve additional funds for the program, we will be unable to award any new scholarships for the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship program.

KFC SCHOLARS— Assisting students with financial needs- $5000 per year, renewable scholarships. Student must have plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence. Applicant must have minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher, be enrolled in an in-state college or university not later than 9/30/10, and is required to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. KANSAS UNIVERSITY SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON TRUE GENTLEMEN LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP-- $5000 to be awarded to an incoming full time, registered University of Kansas student who is interested in contributing as a member of the Greek community. Applicants must demonstrate a 3.0 GPA (unweighted) in high school. AFA TEENS SCHOLARSHIP--To help students express themselves on the topic of Alzheimer’s disease, the AFA Teen, a branch of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, has created an annual scholarship. The AFA Teen encourages eligible junior and senior high school students to share their experiences and thoughts on the subject of Alzheimer’s by applying. Students will need to write a 1,200 to 1,500 word essay about the impact that Alzheimer’s disease has had on their lives. KANSAS AMERICAN LEGION/LEGION AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIPS. The following scholarships are available to high school seniors, college level freshmen or sophomores who are in need of educational assistance, and are enrolled or intend to enroll in an approved junior college, college, university, or trade school located in the state of Kansas. The applicant must be the son or daughter of a veteran; the parent(s) must have been a member of the Kansas American Legion and/or Legion Auxiliary for the past three years. The sons or daughters of deceased members in either organization are also eligible if the parent’s dues were paid up at the time of death. The applicant must be an average or better student scholastically, and must show a high school transcript with GPA.  U.S. “Udie” Grant Scholarship-One $500 scholarship, $250 at the start of each semester in any one school year. The applicant must be a son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a member of the Kansas Sons of The American Legion or a member of the Kansas Sons of The American Legion for the past three years. Deadline is February 15, 2012.

AMERICAN LEGION MUSIC COMMITTEE SCHOLARSHIP—This $1,000 scholarship is available to all Kansas high school seniors, college level freshmen or sophomores who have distinguished themselves in the field of music and/or who will major or minor in music at an approved Kansas junior college, college, or university. AMERICAN LEGION SHOOTING SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP—An outright grant of $500. Applicants of this scholarship must be a Kansas high school senior or college level freshman, who has participated in an American Legion Shooting Sports program in the State and Regional levels. The student must be an average or better student scholastically. Applications are available in the counselor’s office. Application deadline is February 15, 2012.

AMERICAN LEGION HOBBLE (LPN) NURSING SCHOLARSHIP—This is an outright grant of $300 (payable one time) at the start of the first semester, awarded only upon acceptance and verification of enrollment by the scholarship winner in an accredited Kansas school which awards a diploma for Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN ). The applicant must have attained age 18 prior to taking the Kansas State Board Examination. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual who is both qualified and in need of financial aid. AMERICAN CONGRESS ON SURVEYING AND MAPPING (ACSM)-- Each year, through the National Society of Professional Surveyors Foundation, thousands of dollars in scholarships funded by a variety of individuals, companies, and organizations are made available to encourage and support college education in geospatial sciences. These scholarships are a great opportunity for college students enrolled in surveying, mapping, geographic information systems, and geodetic science programs. AMERICAN LEGION EAGLE SCOUT OF THE YEAR—The American Legion Life Insurance Trust Fund provides for a $10,000 National Scholarship to be awarded to the Eagle Scout who is selected :the American Legion Scout of the Year”. The individual selected will be named by the National Americanism Commission during the annual National Spring Meetings. Three runner-up scholarships at $2,500 each have been added to the scholarship awards. The Department of Kansas also gives a $500 scholarship to the Kansas Scout of the Year. KANSAS FARM BUREAU COLLEGIATE SCHOLARSHIP-- Eighteen $500 scholarships available for the 2012-2013 academic school year. The Allstate Foundation is again sponsoring the Keep the Drive High School Journalism Awards to encourage teens to educate their peer about the dangers of texting while driving. THE ART INSTITUTES STORYTELLERS PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETION-- Visit www.artinstitutes.edu/photocompetition and follow the links and instructions to register for the Competition. You will need to select The Art Institutes school where you would like to enter the Competition (the "Participating School") and that you wish to represent should you progress in the Competition. This school should be the one you plan to attend following the end of the Competition and/or high school graduation. Submit six photos based on the theme “Storytelling Through the Lens” and your artist’s statement describing the photos. THE DILLENKOFFER ENDOWMENT—The Dillenkoffer Endowment was established to support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered teens with college tuition grants in Kansas and Missouri. KANSAS MASONIC FOUNDATION STUDENT LOAN/SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM—Low interest loans are available each year from the Kansas Masonic foundation to Kansas residents attending a Kansas institution of higher learning as a full-time student. These multi-year loans are designed to assist a student throughout a 1,2,3, or 4 year educational process. Repayment starts one year after the completion of school and is accomplished over a 4-year period with increasing annual payments at a 5% or less interest rate on the principal. Students are required to maintain at least a 2.0 semester GPA and remain a full-time student. Student who have been in our loan program for at least two years ; remain a full-time student; have and maintain a 3.5 cum GPA; and major in certain areas of study may qualify for one of these scholarships. KANSAS JUNIOR GOLF SCHOLARSHIP—The Kansas Golf Association will award five scholarships for 2012-2013. WENDELL ALLISON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION--A scholarship fund has been established in memory of Wendell Allison. Wendell was a lifelong Melvern resident and Melvern High School graduate. He was a loyal Trojan athletic fan! A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior girl and boy who will be furthering their education. It was Wendell’s wish that this award would be given to candidates who have participated in extra-curricular activities, conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, show pride in school, exhibit good sportsmanship and provide service to both school and community. KANSAS ETHNIC MINORITY SCHOLARSHIP—Applicants must complete the new state application and new applicants must have a school official signature (i.e.; counselor, registrar). All applicants must complete the FASFA. Funding priority goes to eligible renewals. Awards are based on financial needs. Designed to assist the financially needy, academically competitive students who are identified as members of any of the following ethnic/racial groups: African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian or Pacific Islander, or Hispanic. The minimum academic requirements include one of the following: ACT score of 21 or SAT of 990; Cum GPA of 3.0; High School rank in the upper 33%; completion of Kansas Scholars Curriculum; selection by National Merit Corporation in any category; or Selection by College Board as a Hispanic Scholar. KANSAS NURSING SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship requires an obligation to practice as an LPN or RN in Kansas and work for a sponsor. A sponsor means any adult care home, psychiatric hospital, medical care facility, home health agency, local health department or any state agency, which employs LPN’s or RN’s licensed by the State of Kansas. The sponsor will provide partial scholarship funding and provide employment upon licensure of the recipient. All applicants must complete the FAFSA. Minimum criteria includes acceptance to a Kansas nursing program and commitment by an eligible sponsor licensed by the state to fund up to half of the scholarship and provide full time employment to the recipient after licensure. Recipients enrolled in the LPN program are eligible for $2,500. Those enrolled in the RN program are eligible for $3,500 each year. Sponsors pay from $1,000 to one half of the scholarship and the State of Kansas pays the remaining amount. There are specific obligations that go with the scholarship. Deadline is May 1, 2011. KANSAS TEACHER SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship is designed to encourage talented students to enter the teaching profession in specific curriculum areas or underserved geographic areas in the State. The hard-to-fill areas for recipients selected in 2009 are: special education, math, science and music. The underserved geographic areas identified for 2009 are: USD 416 Louisburg, USD 373 Newton, USD 500 Kansas City, Kansas, and USD 259 Wichita. Recipients sign an agreement to complete the program of study and teach for one year for each year of the scholarship support. (Please note that

Individuals applying for the math or science disciplines, within the Kansas teacher Service Scholarship program, will be prioritized in awarding based on merit and application receipt date. Applicants must be enrolled in one of the specified areas of a teacher education program and have some combination of the following: completion of the Kansas Scholars Curriculum , ACT or SAT score; high school GPA; and class rank. Scholarship recipients receive $5,000 each academic year and the scholarship may be received four years. If the recipient selects a different major or curriculum emphasis or does not teach in Kansas in the specified curriculum or underserved geographic area, the scholarship converts to a loan with interest accruing from the date the scholarship was received.
