Minutes

I. Call to Order A. The meeting was called to order at 9:34 AM. The meeting was attended by Cyndi Maijala, Lisa Elliott, Trupti Mehta, Paula Myers, Cecelia Lowe, Susan Gaydon, Barbara Tom, Debbilyn Kovalik, Grace Wright, Lisa Aquino, Shar Yorgey, Barbara Tharenos, Pam McGill, Wendi Mazzocco, Sandi Geringer, Liz Williams and Mashid Shokrzadah

II. Approval of January 22, 2013 Minutes A. Debbilyn Kovalik moved to approve the January 22, 2013 minutes. Sandi Geringer seconded the motion and the minutes were approved.

III. President’s Report A. We have 2 RFF changes/exceptions from what we originally approved. Ms. Deters' magnetic write and wipe easel is approximately $199 which is $50 more than the original $149 RFF amount approved. Ipad covers for the Ipad Cart are $315 which is $85 more than the original $230 RFF approved. 1. Sandi Geringer moved to approve the new amounts. Debilyn Kovalik seconded and the new amounts were approved. B. We need to start recruiting for any vacant positions for next year’s board. Paula and Trupti will be talking to everyone to see if they want to stay in their current position or change positions.

IV. Principal’s Report A. Ms. Maijala met with Johnny Khamis to offer our cafeteria for a recent community meeting. It was not his scheduled meeting, but he would love to come to our future events. 1. He indicated that our crossing guards looked to be safe for next school year. B. The staff, leadership and invisible issues group raised $500 for the local couple whose home was invaded. Ms. Maijala and Mr. DeLong visited the couple and presented them with the gift. C. The Smartboard has been installed in the new computer lab/café. Furniture will be going in on Friday. Mr. Nesci created some Art Deco looking light boxes. 1. 10 teachers will be trained after school on March 6th. The next step will be to have the students trained. D. Academic awards were finished up before the Presidents break. We received good feedback from the 8th graders on the new format. The cheer team was there for spirit. 1. 8th grade honors night will still continue at the end of the school year for both GPA recognition and department awards. 2. Encourage your students to thank their teachers if they received a Cornerstone postcard.

V. Committee Updates

A. Cultural Faire – There is a meeting tonight. B. Project Cornerstone – A Take it Personally group is meeting at Williams Elementary in the mornings and at Simonds Elementary at night. Every teacher that turns in nominees gets a candy bar. The next Cornerstone awards is on March 7th and respect is the asset being recognized. The Cornerstone breakfast is March 28.

C. Everyday Heroes – March 14th is the next date for the table in the quad.

D. Hospitality – Great attendance for the daytime awards ceremonies. Need more cookies since most students attended.

E. SNAC – Need someone for Mondays after school. Next year we will need 2 new chair people.

F. Emergency Preparedness – Ms. O’Connell wants 12 search and rescue backpacks for each member of the search and rescue team. $1440 is the estimate cost. We also need 6 cases of emergency food bars with a 5 year shelf life. $726 is the estimate cost. 1. Lisa Elliott moved to release $2500 from Emergency Preparedness funds. Cecelia Lowe seconded and the fund release was passed.

G. 8th grade promotion – Permission slips went out. 30 Moms attended the most recent meeting so there is plenty of help for all the committees. Ms. O’Connell sent out additional information on the dress code. The theme is evening of stars.

H. Passport to Success – The event will be from 9:00-12:00 on April 19. Kumon is donating bags. An email will go out for what careers we still need represented. Susan thinks she has someone for food. She needs a shadow for someone to chair it next year.

I. Membership – A few checks are still coming in. Looking for ideas for next year’s gift for contributing.

J. RFF – The district is coming out today to check on the wiring for TV installations.

K. Parent Speakers – On Wednesday March 20, Mac Barnett will come to speak on literacy and writing. Students are invited to come with their parents. Williams and Graystone 5th graders and their parents will also be invited to attend. The reviews say he is funny and engaging. There will also be a raffle for books.
