The Colorado Education Association (CEA), a statewide public education employee association, (a non-profit 501(c)(5), seeks qualified applicants for the position of Accountant in its headquarters office in Denver, Colorado. The selected individual will work in the Business Affairs and Human Resources Center.

Essential Qualifications . Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality on sensitive personnel and organizational matters . Proficiency in various computer technologies in a Windows-based PC environment; good working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Quickbooks . Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications . Ability to work in a team environment . Ability to gather and organize information into a variety of formats . Effective records maintenance skills . Ability to expand knowledge and skills in a rapidly changing environment . Ability to plan and successfully implement projects . Ability to complete multiple projects with shifting priorities and to meet deadlines under pressure . Ability to work with a minimum of supervision . Special awareness to detail and effective follow-through on projects and tasks . Demonstrated use of sound professional judgment . Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, leaders and external contacts . Willingness and ability to work occasional long hours that include evenings and weekends . Knowledge of PeopleSoft Accounting System is a plus . Accounting degree preferred

Primary Responsibilities . General Ledger monthly closing . Month and year-end financial statements preparation . Balance bank statements . Account reconciliation . Fund accounting for five designated funds . Budget development, analysis and adjustments . Annual audit preparation and oversight . Coordinate 990 preparation and review for accuracy . Preparation of reports and analysis for management to support labor negotiations . Provide payroll services for CEA and 18 separate small affiliates . Pension uploads to investment company . Maintain records for accrued paid time off . Affiliate monthly payroll statement and billing . Other duties as assigned Compensation and Benefits This is a confidential position with a competitive and negotiable salary and benefits package. Starting salary range of $65,000-$75,000 based on experience. Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, personal and sick leave; health, dental, disability, and life insurance; holidays; defined company contribution to a 401(k) plan, and reimbursement for business-related mileage.
