The City of Waltham is currently looking for candidates with Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL) to register on our civil service lists for Laborer, Highway Maintenance, Motor Equipment Operator (MEO), Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (HMEO) and Special Motor Equipment Operator (SMEO)*. We are looking to build our applicant pool.

Base on MGL. Ch. 31 Sect. 28 the names of persons who apply for employment in labor service shall be registered and placed, in the order of the dates on which they file their applications, on the list for the titles for which they apply and qualify. Veterans and surviving spouse or surviving parents of veterans, who were killed in action or died from a service connected disability, incurred in war service, who have not remarried shall be placed on the eligible list before all other candidates.

Registrations are valid for a period of five years. Applicants have a one time opportunity to renew for an additional five years if they notify the Personnel Department in writing six months prior to and after the anniversary date of the registration.

To register simply complete a City of Waltham application which can be picked up in Personnel, 119 School Street, Waltham or downloaded at www.city.waltham.ma.us/personnel-department.

Minimum required experience: Laborer & Highway Maintenance – no required experience MEO, HMEO, SMEO – 1 year – 3 years experience

To be eligible for employment you must: Have met the minimum qualifications of the position Have a valid Commercial Driver’s license Have a Hoisting license if applying for Special Motor Equipment Operator Complete a City of Waltham application Have three written letters of recommendation Pass a CORI background check Pass a pre-employment physical, lift test and drug test Pass an oral interview panel

If eligible, you will be notified of future openings, based on your seniority on the list. Please be sure to read and respond to all notifications sent to you. If you fail to respond to three notifications or if your notification is returned by the post office you will be removed from the list.
