ED 588W PERSPECTIVE and REFLECTION for NEW ADMINISTRATORS (1 Graduate Credit)

This workshop is for new administrators who are in their first five years of administration. The workshop will focus on helping new administrators to reflect on what worked and what didn’t work in their positions and why. In addition, workshop participants will be challenged to reflect on whether their beliefs, their voice and their actions are aligned. Participants will be expected to share perspectives and actively engage in dialogue with other participants. A series of short readings will guide the discussion and activities. $175.00

ED 588W Conducting a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) (1 Graduate Credit)

This two day workshop will provide an overview of the process of conducting a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and how to use the process to understand the function of behavior displayed by individuals with cognitive or communication disabilities as well as typically developing children who exhibit challenging behaviors in the classroom. Techniques and strategies to identify the purpose of behavior along with interventions to address the challenging areas will be covered. Participants will use real life examples and leave with specific strategies to implement in the student’s environment. This problem solving process will include a “make it and take it” so participants will leave with materials to implement in their classroom. Any new or seasoned teacher that is looking for practical strategies to promote social and behavior skills to reduce maladaptive behaviors should attend. This workshop is appropriate for professionals working with preschool and K-12. $175.00

ED 588W Technology Integration (1 Graduate Credit)

This workshop prepares teachers to become proficient at integrating technology into standards-based curriculum to improve student learning. Candidates become technology leaders in the classroom, school, and district. Teachers will engage in planning, teaching, and assessment centered on the needs and abilities of students. They will develop proactive leadership skills for developing a shared vision for educational technology among all education stakeholders, including teachers and support staff, school and district administrators, teacher educators, students, parents, and the community. In addition, teachers will develop skills for advancement technologies – including e-learning, telecommunications and multimedia-based instruction, tools for instructional management and assessment, and adaptive computer access. Finally teachers will engage in the learning, as well as the use of authentic assessment strategies, differentiated instruction and appropriate technology tools to accommodate all learners, including students with special needs. $175.00 Dates: Thursday, June 30, 8:00 – 4:00 and Friday, July 1, 8:00 – 3:30 Instructor: Bryan Drost, Ph.D., Fireland Local Schools ED 588W Breaking the Bell Curve: How to increase student performance with Mastery Learning (1 Graduate Credit) This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of how to develop and implement mastery learning in their classrooms using The Grid Method – Mastery Learning System in order to increase student success and access to positive educational outcomes. The course will outline practical and easy-to-implement tips on the creation, implementation, and management of learner-paced mastery grids and the systematic use of mastery learning in the classrooms to increase student achievement. The Grid Method provides a system to develop targeted learning opportunities and create a student-centered classroom where students can be reached at their current level of cognitive understanding. The scaffolding of learning progressions also creates a learning environment where extension and cross-curricular connections are more accessible and meaningful for learners when they are reached.

Participants will be provided tools, information, and instruction to create and develop their own mastery grids from state and national standards. Additional instructional strategies on monitoring student progress, facilitating student movement and interventions, as well as implementation of assessment (formative and summative) will be discussed. The result of the workshop will be an understanding of the research-based best practices and implementation of those practices using The Grid Method – Mastery Learning System. Templates, Workbooks, digital files, access to online resources, as well as continued support after course, will be provided. $175.00

ED 588W Differentiation in the classroom (1 Graduate Credit) This two day interactive workshop will define and apply the concept of differentiation to all levels of elementary education. Participants will work in collaborative groups to learn strategies for differentiation appropriate to their grade level, while using their own curriculum, projects, activities and lessons. Participants will need to bring lessons and/or units from their own curriculum to be used during these sessions. $175.00

ED 588W Incorporating Word Study and Fluency Instruction into Daily Routines (1 Graduate Credit) This course will offer ways to strengthen what you already do for reading instruction in your early primary grade classroom. Discussion will include approaches to building reading fluency and the use of work study routines to improve literacy skills for your students. Many of the ideas presented will be in the form of mini lessons that can easily be incorporated into your day. This workshop is for you if you want some fresh ideas and new strategies to bring to your students next fall. You will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues and to share your strategies too. $175.00

ED 588W BLASTT-Blending Literacy and Science Together with Technology (1 Graduate Credit) This workshop is designed to introduce and integrate the balanced-literacy approach into content area reading. Literature and science combine to engage, excite, and drive instruction. Participant will explore inquiry-based learning and the 5E learning cycle (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) as a means to connect and construct new knowledge using hands-on learning. Within this workshop participants will learn how to blend literature, content area reading, and technology together to meet the needs of diverse learners. The emphasis will be on curriculum alignment and assessment. Technology tools (Nearpod, Google Classroom, See Saw, and many more) will be interwoven as catalyst for learning within the classroom. Please bring a device with you to class and some of your favorite literature both fiction and nonfiction. Part of the workshop will be spent creating a unit for your classroom. $175.00
