Apply to join our regional programme to nurture young choreographic talent.

This programme is led by Pavilion Dance South West with support from Dance in Devon.

Two amazing residential intensive weekends are on offer :

Saturday 31 October / Sunday 1 November 2015 with Antoine Vereecken (Random Dance) and Marc Brew at Dartington

Saturday 16 / Sunday 17 January 2016 with Luca Silvestrini (Protein) at Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth

Places are open to anyone based in the South West (see guidance for a list of local authority areas). This call is open to previous Young Choreographers and those who would like to do it for the first time. We are committed to inclusive dance and encourage applications from disabled dancers. Numbers are limited. There is a fee of £80 for each residential.

You will be informed if you have been successful on or before 22 September. This information will be used solely for the purpose of this application and your personal details will only be shared for selection purposes.

3 Young Choreographers SW 2015 – GUIDANCE NOTES

COST - £80 We can offer each residential for just £80 because dance development organisations have worked hard to raise the funds to pay the expenses. So you are making a serious commitment by applying to these courses. The cost is £80 residential – so £160 if you were to do both.

TRAVEL You are responsible for your own travel to and from activities and residentials to ensure you arrive in good time. We can offer a small number of £40 Bursaries to help people who want to attend and have to travel a long way - please make sure you tick the box on the form if you want to be considered for a travel bursary. These will be offered first to those who are travelling the longest distance.

AGE ELIGIBLITY We welcome applications from young people aged 18 – 24 years.

GEOGRAPHIC ELIGIBILITY You must live in one of these local authority areas : Bath & North East Somerset Bournemouth & Poole Bristol Cornwall Devon Dorset Gloucestershire Hampshire Isle of Wight North Somerset Plymouth Portsmouth Somerset South Gloucestershire Southampton Torbay Wiltshire

DANCE EXPERIENCE . You may be a dance leader yourself, still developing your skills. . You may be studying Dance or you may have graduated in dance . You may be a student or participant in a youth dance group. . You must be interested in creating your own choreography not just performing others’. . You need to have a high level of fitness, a genuine passion for dance and a good level of dance experience, in any style.

WHAT’S ON OFFER  Practical choreographic workshops and discussion with leading choreographers  A chance to be selected for further mentoring and choreographic opportunities  Full Board and Lodging on the Dartington Estate and gardens or in Bournemouth hotels and at Pavilion Dance  Best and safe practice in dance with young people at all times. Our Policy is available on our website NB. Photographs / film will be taken throughout the weekend for use on websites, reports etc.

4 5 Young Choreographers will be selected to receive mentoring as they choreograph a new work and perform it to an industry audience in spring 2016.

We shall advertise other opportunities for choreography or performance to Young Choreographers as they arise during the year.

You will become part of our Young Choreographers alumni network and we shall make sure our dance partners around the region know who you are and what you are doing. We shall also keep you in mind as and when opportunities arise.

Do note that our emphasis is on choreography for participatory work as well as performance. Many of you will earn some or all of your living by leading workshops for different kinds of people/work and it is as important that you use your creative choreographic skills in this environment as well as for professional performance.

OTHER ACTIVITIES ON OFFER Young Choreographers SW is a scheme run by PDSW. At the time of writing the national Young Creatives programme is not confirmed. More information will be available from Youth Dance England in October www.yde.org.uk .
