Buchanan Badgers Begin a New 4-H Year
By Levi Penterman, Reporter Buchanan Badgers 4-H Club
The Buchanan Badgers 4-H Club held their first meeting at St. Al’s School in Kaukauna at 6:30 pm on Monday, September 8. This was our first meeting of the 2014-2015 4-H year. Along with the new year comes new officers as well. These officers were elected at last month’s meeting. There were several new members at the meeting interested in joining our club.
Our first order of business was discussing new bylaw changes, and events that will be coming up in the new 4-H year. One of the upcoming events is the Chili Dump at the Spranger’s house on September 27, at 3:00 pm. We will play games, have a camp fire, and members can camp overnight if they’d like to.
Every member at the meeting was required to bring a project from the past year to be displayed at the Kaukauna Public Library in honor of National 4-H week from October 5-11. We will set up all the projects to be displayed at the library on Tuesday, September 23 at 6:15.
Our club’s officers were reminded to go to Officer Training in Black Creek Elementary School on September 18 at 7:00 pm. After that we had Demos. Cali Sprangers talked about the things she uses for showing beef cattle and calves. Auttumm Sauerhammer told everyone about her cross stitchery that she brought to the Outagamie County Fair as a Cloverbud. Angela Penterman talked about how she competed with her rabbits at the Wisconsin State Rabbit Breeders Association Convention in Chilton, and how she was named 2014 WSRBA Queen. After the Demos the kids in our club played a fun game called “Minute to Win it.” It was a relay race that had fun challenges.
We plan to help out at Halloween in the Park in Darboy, which is a community service event where our club decorates a spooky trail for people to go through on October 25.
Our club’s next meeting will be on October 13 at 6:30 at St. Al’s School in Kaukauna. The Kellam and Peotter families are on for snacks and demos. We will have our Halloween party which will include the biggest sunflowers and pumpkin contests, decorated pumpkin contest, costume contest, and a game. Come ready to have fun!
