NATALIE P. HARTENBAUM, M. D., M.P.H., F.A.C.O.E.M.

Dr. Natalie P. Hartenbaum, President and Chief Medical Officer of OccuMedix, Inc, is a nationally recognized expert in Occupational and Environmental Medicine with special expertise in the area of transportation medicine. . She is editor of The DOT Medical Examination: A Guide to Commercial Driver Medical Certification, now in it’s second edition. This book is considered by many to be the definitive reference to evaluating medical fitness in the trucking industry. Dr. Hartenbaum is the Editor of CDME (Commercial Driver Medical Examiner) Review, a quarterly newsletter published by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and has written or contributed to numerous books, chapters and articles on fitness for duty issues and regulated drug testing. Dr. Hartenbaum developed and is the course director of an ongoing course for commercial driver medical examiners. She has lectured extensively on this and other occupational medicine topics to health care providers and non- medical clients. Dr. Hartenbaum has extensive Occupational Medicine experience in both the corporate and clinical setting.

She has testified for the National Transportation Safety Board at hearings exploring commercial driver medical certification issues and was a member of the negotiated rulemaking committee of the Federal Highway Administration which was exploring the merging of the medical examination and licensing process for commercial drivers

Dr. Hartenbaum obtained her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and her Master’s of Public Health in Occupational Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin. A residency in Internal Medicine was completed at Tulane University Hospitals in New Orleans and residency in Occupational Medicine was done at Thomas Jefferson University where she served as chief resident. She is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine and is also a certified Medical Review Officer and holds an academic appointment at the University of Pennsylvania School in the Department of Emergency Medicine in Occupational Medicine.

An active member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, she is currently President of the Philadelphia component and a member of the national organization’s Board of Directors.
