Course Objectives: This course is designed to give the student an introduction to the vast field of animal science. Students will be exposed to common breeds and production issues in Beef, Sheep, Swine, Dairy, and Horses. In addition, an overview of Reproduction, Nutrition, Behavior and current issues will be discussed.

Grading : Two Midterms 200 Five Quizzes 100 Five Lab Reports 200 One Final Exam 150 Presentation 100 TOTAL 750 points

Final grades will be EARNED based on the following:

A = 90% of the highest point total in class. B = 80% of the highest point total in class. C = 70% of the highest point total in class. D = 60% of the highest point total in class. F = < 60% of the highest point total in class.

Grading Guidelines:

1. There will be 6 unannounced quizzes that CANNOT BE MADE UP FOR ANY REASON. The low score will be dropped and top 5 counted. 2. It is the student=s responsibility to obtain class notes or other material that was missed.

3. Quiz or exam material will come from class lectures, handouts, labs and assigned readings. The final exam will be comprehensive.

4. Lab reports will be due in class the Friday after lab. If you did not attend the lab, then you cannot do a lab report. Late reports will be accepted will a 10 point deduction for each day late. All reports will be typed and double spaced and include a cover page. See handout for other specifics.

5. Incomplete Policy: In completes will be given in the event a student completes the majority of the course work, but for some valid reason, misses a portion of the class. Before an incomplete will be given, the student must sign a contract with the instructor stating how and when the work is to be made up. The awarding of an incomplete is at the discretion of the instructor.

6. Y Grades. The Y grade means Ano basis@ for a grade. In this class, a Y grade will be given only under the following circumstances: A. A registered student that has never attended class. B. A registered student stops attending class in the first two weeks of the term.

You have until Friday of the seventh week (November 13, 2009) to drop a class with out a grade penalty. If dropping the class puts you below 12 credits and you are on financial aid, you may lose your financial aid. If you fail to drop by November 13, 2009, and do not fall into either category A or B, you will receive a letter grade in this course.

7. Use of cell phones during class- Each student will get one warning, after that there will be a 25 point deduction for each infraction.
