Reports
Membership Report: Kim Kutsch discussed the membership. The number of individuals and clubs are similar to the total last year.
President’s Report: Shane Sorey discussed that a sponsorship arrangement has been made with Propel water. He also discussed that he attended the Association Workshop in August along with Mike Hinz. At the Association workshop, they discussed how to market your association. They also discussed that officials at major meets may have new uniform provided by Nike. Shane proposed for USATF clinics should offer clinic over USATF.tv.
Treasurer’s Report: Lana Waters discussed that we are financially solvent. Her job has been made more difficult because USATF’s central office’s accounting practices have changed. She requested to receive training for Quickbooks. Kim Kutsch moved and Steve Kutsch seconded for an amount up to $250 be budgeted for Lana to be trained in Quickbooks. The motion passed. She filed the group exemption.
Shane Sorey discussed the budget. Proposed changes include cutting the official’s clinic amount by $100, combining printing and office supplies to a single line item for $500 (a net $400 cut), cutting $200 from postage. The net savings from these changes are transferred to support travel to the USATF annual meeting. A motion to accept a revised budget was moved and seconded. The vote carried.
NW Representative to Association Committee Report: Mike Hinz participates in a monthly conference call. Hinz reported that there has been a major changeover in the information technology (IT) department at USATF. There will be more strict enforcement of background checks for all coach who work with youth. All officers and committee chairs should check in with USATF with their position title. USATF will provide access to the Association Management Document Center. The USATF is no longer providing rule books. Accreditation standards are being reviewed. Youth Chair Report: Chris Lowe reported that the Regional Junior Olympic Track and Field meet was successful with about 1700 athletes participating.
Sports Medicine Report: Asdrubal Lopez reported that he used most of his medical supplies at the association and regional Junior Olympic meets. He is applying for a grant for medical equipment. His practice is obtaining a Gait 3D analysis program and he will donate a percentage of the income to the youth fund. He requested a line item for medical supplies. Steve Kutsch moved and Kim Kutsch seconded for a $200 line item to the youth fund. It was approved by voice vote.
Sanctions Report: Ed Brandstoettner reported that sanctioned races are up a little compared to this time last year.
Officials Report: Shane Sorey reported that the association now has 77 certified officials, which is a large increase. He is recruiting more officials with a goal of 100. Linda Lanker will put on the Runner’s Soul Clinic February 22. Shane will offer an officials’ clinic at that venue.
Athletics for the Disabled Report: Teresa Skinner discussed recent events.
Old Business: There are two outstanding bids to host the INW Cross Country Jr. Olympics: 1) Spokane Mercury Athletic Club (SMAC) and 2) Tri Cities Thunder. SMAC withdrew their bid and will assist Kate Samuelson of Tri Cities to host the meet on November 15 at Big Cross in Pasco, WA.
New Business: A youth committee has been formed and will include Chris Lowe, Kim Kutsch, Shane Sorey and one representative from each club. Meetings will be open and publicized on the web.
Mike Hinz requested for information about necrology for the national meetings.
Chris Vogel discussed that athletes may practice with multiple clubs. Mike Hinz discussed that practices must be posted and no athletes should be recruited outside the athlete’s area.
Election of officers: Jill McCluskey said that she would prefer not to be secretary after many years of service, but would serve if needed. Chris Lowe said he was willing to run for secretary. Jill took herself off the ballot. The rest of the slate of officers is unchanged. The slate of officers below was elected.
