The Alexandria Jaycees, a community-focused leadership development organization that has been serving the City of Alexandria since 1940, recently bestowed Life Memberships - its highest honor - upon four individuals:
Beth Fujishige - A member since 1994, Beth has served the Alexandria Jaycees as membership recruitment and community development vice president, president and chairman of the board. She has also held two positions with the Virginia Jaycees. Her many awards include Chapter Officer of the Year and U.S. Jaycees Outstanding Local Officer.
James Moreland - A member since 1993, Jim has held the positions of individual development and membership activation vice president, president and chairman of the board. In 2000, he chaired and oversaw construction of the Haunted House, a very successful fundraiser for the Alexandria Jaycees.
Sharon Sobel - A member since 1995, Sharon has held the positions of management director, chapter secretary, business socials program manager and activation vice president. Sharon has represented the Alexandria Jaycees on the George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee (GWBCC) for the City of Alexandria since 1999 and just became GWBCC's vice chair in 2004.
Laura Williams - A member since 1993, Laura's executive board positions have included membership activation vice president, individual development vice president and membership recruitment vice president. She has won numerous awards and has shown dedication and consistency throughout the past decade, serving in many very important behind-the-scenes roles.
To qualify for a Life Membership, the recipient must have been a member of the Alexandria Jaycees for a minimum of five years and must have made a significant contribution to the organization.
"Beth, Jim, Sharon, and Laura have demonstrated one of the key tenets in the Jaycee Creed through their years of contributing their time and talent to the chapter and community," said Alicia Auerswald, president. "That service to humanity is the best work of life." The Alexandria Jaycees, part of Junior Chamber International, is a leadership training and community service organization for Alexandrians aged 21-39.
