I want to welcome your child to English-10: Early American Literature to 1920. As each year begins, I feel inspired and invigorated to present the curriculum using new strategies and activities. I want to engross students in the literature of our great nation. People say I possess a great deal of energy and enthusiasm as exhibited in my teaching style. My classroom and activities reflect my creative personality. I love trying new things with my content. I completed coursework earning my MA Ed specializing in the Diverse Classroom. Learning never ends as I plan to continue taking graduate level courses. I am always learning new things from my peers and students. I know we will have a great and memorable year! In addition to being an educator, I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and empathetic friend. I am a graduate of WTHS, a resident and proud parent of 3 WTHS graduates. I have enjoyed teaching here since 1998. As a mother of 3 daughters, I realize educational needs and abilities differ greatly among children. This knowledge helps me appreciate the differences in my students. I taught my girls: to take advantage of their strengths while working through any problems encountered. Fortunately, my husband and I survived their teenage years. We are very proud of the women they have become. We enjoy hosting gatherings for our grandsons Aidan, Lucas, and our extended family. I love cooking and there is always something healthy and delicious for company. It is a lively household with our Jack Russell Terrier-Zee. The curriculum covered in Honors and College Prep A prepares students for college and the work force. To succeed, a student must be prepared, positive, and involved in classroom discussions. They cannot actively participate in discussions unless they do the reading and preview activities at home. It must be completed in a timely fashion for students to benefit from classroom discussion. Reading assignments are HOMEWORK and checked with quizzes. Students must answer study guide questions to the best of their ability. The material is challenging. Students will be using 21st century skills for instructional purposes, remediation, extension, and to turn in work electronically. Content will be delivered to students beyond the 45-minute class period. They have access to instruction through online sources, teacher posted links, online textbooks (literature and vocabulary), and other technology links to prepare them for college and beyond. STUDENTS: PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO COME SEE ME BEFORE YOU FEEL IN OVER YOUR HEAD!
