A family of aliens land on earth

When they leave earth in a hurry, their child E.T. is accidentally left behind

A young boy called Elliot finds E.T. and takes him inside his house

E.T. and Elliot become close friends but E.T. wants to go home to his own family

Together they build a time machine to contact E.T.’s family

E.T.’s family receives the message but before they can rescue him, the Government breaks into Elliot’s house and snatches E.T.

The Government carries out experiments on E.T. and E.T. dies

Elliot’s sorrow over his friend’s death brings E.T. back to life

Elliot and his brother hijack a van and drive E.T. to the woods to meet his parents’ spaceship

E.T. is reunited with his family and has to say goodbye to his earth friends.
