MCRU Distributed Research Performance Sites: The Michigan Clinical Research Unit (MCRU) is currently located in two discrete areas. The main performance site is on level 1 in the UMHS Cardiovascular Center (CVC). The Domino’s Farms extension is located approximately four miles from the hospital in northeast Ann Arbor. The Domino’s Farms location is located in Lobby M.
The MCRU facility in the CVC is comprised of approximately 7,400 square feet of space, which includes research-only outpatient exam rooms, research-only overnight stay beds in private rooms, and administrative offices. It also includes a research exercise physiology area, a procedure room, a nursing workspace, a medical preparation and storage room, a participant intake area, equipment storage space, clean and soiled holing rooms, a principal investigator and study coordinator workroom, a staff locker room, a metabolic kitchen, a specimen processing laboratory, a participant waiting area and a dining area for participants. The CVC laboratory contains two -80° freezers, -30° freezer, one refrigerator, three room temperature/refrigerator centrifuges, one dry heat incubator, water baths, fume hood, biological safety cabinet, liquid nitrogen dispenser, dry ice chest and bench space.
The Outpatient Clinical Research Unit at Domino’s Farms currently houses six exam rooms. Shared space includes a waiting room, patient carrels, patient intake area, equipment room, a double secure-locked documentation room, audit/exam room, patient food preparation room, staff kitchen, patient shower, and handicap accessible bathrooms. A 140 square-foot wet laboratory is contiguous with the patient facility. It contains two table top centrifuges, one computer with internet connection allowing follow up on patient laboratory values, one label printer for blood draws, supplies for drawing blood and for preparing aliquots for storage. The laboratory also contains one refrigerator /- 20°C freezer combination unit for specimen storage, one small specimen refrigerator, and two room temperature/refrigerated centrifuges, dry ice chest and bench space.
