We Are Ready to Begin External Testing of Our New Remote Desktop Service Application Services

We are ready to begin external testing of our new Remote Desktop Service application Services, You can reach the server at the following address: https://remote.ncemcs.com

You must be using at Windows XP with SP3, Windows Vista with SP2 or Windows 7 to connect to this service. You also must install several updates to XP and Vista that will make your machine compatible with the security settings we are using on our servers. You must be running Internet Explorer 8.0 or above. This page will not work with Firefox or Opera.

To verify if you are using SP3 on Windows XP, click Start, then right-click on My Computer and click properties:

You will get a screen similar to this:

k Verify that you see Service Pack 3 in the middle of the screen. If you are not at service pack 3, it can be downloaded from Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389/

The procedure is the same as above to verify the service pack level for Vista. If you are not at service pack 2 on Windows Vista, it can be downloaded here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935791

One you have the correct service packs installed, you will need to install several updates to XP, and one to Vista to work with NCEMC security. Windows 7 supports our security without updates. We have pushed these updates to laptops and workstations at Sumner, Greens Dairy, TEMA, and the Power Plants, so you should not need to update your work desktops and laptops.

A web page has been created where you can download a package to run that will install the updates you need. Go to the following web pages: http://www.ncemcs.com/remote/

For Windows XP SP3 click on the link labeled “Install files for Windows XP”

You will need to be an administrator on your machine to install these updates. One you have saved the file, you will run it. You will get the message:

Click Yes to install the updates. Your PC will reboot at the end of the install, make sure you save and close all programs before running the update. For Vista SP2 click on the link labeled “Install files for Windows Vista”

You will need to be an administrator on your machine to install these updates. One you have saved the file, you will run it. You will get the message:

You should then see the update being installed:

If you get the message “The update does not apply to your system” you do not need the update and are ready to user the remote services.

You should not have to reboot after applying the patch on Vista, just click close when the install is done. Once this is done, you are ready to go to the web page: https://remote.ncemcs.com

You will login using your normal domain credentials. After logging in, you will see a page of icons you have access to. Click on one of the icons to get started.

You may receive the following message after clicking on an icon:

Click the box labeled “Don’t ask me again for remote connections from this publisher” and you will not see this message again.

When using apps, the default printer on your workstation will be remapped so you can print to it locally. You have access to your NCEMC network drives as well as the C:\ drive on your workstation to save files.

Please note, internet access is locked down to internal sites only, you will not be able to reach external sites using RDS.
