NHS Service Hours .Frequently Asked Questions

NHS Service Hours….frequently asked questions…

1. Is there a minimum service hour requirement for my membership in NHS?? YES!!

WTHS National Honor Society requires a MINIMUM of 10 service hours per year of membership. Therefore, if you are:

 Inducted in January of your JUNIOR year, you will need a MINIMUM of 10 hours beginning the day after induction through the start of your senior year.

o You will ALSO need ANOTHER MINIMUM of 10 hours during your senior year in NHS beginning the first day of school in September through May 31st.

o This will give members that are inducted as juniors a total of 20 service hours by May 31st of their senior year.

 Inducted in January of your SENIOR year, you will need to fulfill the MINIMUM of 10 hours beginning the day after induction through May 31st of your Senior year.

o This will give members that are inducted as seniors a total of 10 service hours by May 31st that same year.

2. How do I keep track or record my hours??

 Service forms can be downloaded from the NHS webpage: www.wthsnhs.shutterfly.com

 Service forms SHOULD BE FILED in F11 within 30 days of service.

 RETAIN the bottom portion of the service form FOR YOUR OWN RECORDS!!

 DO NOT FORGET TO HAVE YOUR SERVICE FORM SIGNED AND DATED BY THE PERSON OR ORGANIZER FOR WHOM THE SERVICE WAS PROVIDED FOR!!! This is NOT always the NHS Advisor or Executive Board members!!

3. How do I obtain service hours??

Service hours can be obtained through WTHS clubs, events, activities; churches; community organizations; etc. Any volunteer (NON-pay received) work can be used to earn your minimum service hours.

4. Can I have more than the minimum requirement of service hours?? YES!!! We strongly encourage all members to become active service members in our school and community!! The TOTAL number of hours per service will be recorded on your service form which may differ from the MAXIMUM number of 4 NHS hours for any one event.

5. Are there any other requirements regarding service hours for NHS? YES!!

(This is the tricky part…so pay attention and ask questions if you are still unsure.)
