Job Description- Deputy Nursery Manager

Purpose of the post:

1. To work under the direction of the nursery manager and deputise for him/her as and when required. 2. To support the aims and objectives of the nursery and assist the nursery manager in the organisation of a high quality establishment for children from birth to five years. 3. To provide high standards of childcare and education – to include the monitoring and reviews of provision, this includes providing a safe, caring environment to enable the emotional, social and educational development of children, through individual attention and group activities. 4. To direct and support staff as agreed by the nursery manager. 5. To ensure the smooth day to day running of the nursery.

Responsible to: Nursery Manager

Main duties

1. To promote the aims and objectives of the nursery. 2. To promote and maintain the high standards of the nursery at all times to staff, visitors and parents. 3. To develop solid professional relationships with all parents. 4. To assist the nursery manager in showing parents around the nursery facilities and sending out information. 5. To ensure high standards are maintained at all times. 6. To ensure the provision of activities cover all the EYFS areas. 7. To supervise a team of professional workers and ensure good practice at all times, under the direction of the Nursery Manager. 8. To oversee the planning and profiles of all the team. 9. In the absence of the manager assist with the planning and organisation of staffing schedules and holiday rota’s, to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained in accordance with local authority guidelines and nursery procedures. 10. To assist the nursery manager with the administrative procedures involved with registration, place allocation, and other related matters. 11. To assist with the development and implementation of systems to monitor and record child development. 12. To work with the nursery manager to organise trips for the children.

Liaise with parents, other family members and staff to help ensure that the particular needs of the children are met and that parental choice is considered in terms of care given. General duties:

15. To assist the nursery manager in designing and fulfilling objectives and policies for the nursery and ensure the nursery policies and procedures are followed. 16. To assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment. 17. To be responsible for the health and safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children and ensuring staff compliance and awareness. 18. To be responsible for the health and safety of staff, visitors and parents. 19. To ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times. 20. To support the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from different cultures, religious backgrounds and stages of development. 21. To ensure confidentiality of information received. 22. To assist with staff development and training. 23. To lead and direct staff under the direction of the manager. 24. To lead by example ie following the behaviour policy. 25. To liaise with outside agencies as required. 26. To assist the nursery manager with PR exercises and events to promote the business. 27. Assist the nursery manager with the efficient upkeep of the building and maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishing and fittings. 28. Maintain staff awareness of the fire drill in accordance with the code of practice. 29. To contribute to staff meetings and attend training sessions outside working hours and keep up to date with current childcare issues. To attend annual open day and parents evening outside working hours. 30. To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the nursery manager. 31. To deputise for the nursery manager in his/her absence. 32. To undertake a basic first aid training course. 33. To unlock and lock up the nursery as necessary.
