Homework: 1. Review all prior reading, study guides, notes, packets, and maps to get ready for the quiz and test. 2. In addition to this, you must create a belief systems flip book to keep these ideas straight. Jihad Against Jews and Crusaders

Praise be to Allah, who revealed the Book, controls the clouds…and peace be upon our Prophet, Muhammad… …No one argues today about [the] facts that are known to everyone; we will list them, in order to remind everyone: …For over seven years the United States [Crusaders] has been occupying the lands of Islam in the holiest of places, the Arabian Peninsula, plundering its riches, dictating to its rulers, humiliating its people, terrorizing its neighbors, and turning its bases in the Peninsula into a spearhead through which to fight the neighboring Muslim peoples. If some people have in the past argued about the fact of the occupation, all the people of the Peninsula have now acknowledged it. The best proof of this is the Americans' continuing aggression against the Iraqi people using the Peninsula as a staging post, even though all its rulers are against their territories being used to that end, but they are helpless…. …All these crimes and sins committed by the Americans are a clear declaration of war on Allah, his messenger, and Muslims… …On that basis, and in compliance with Allah's order, we issue the following fatwa to all Muslims: The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies -- civilians and military -- is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque [Mecca] from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty Allah, "and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together," and "fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah."

Park51 (Cordoba House) is an Islamic community center and Mosque planned to be built two blocks away from ground zero in Manhattan. There has been a loud and lively debate over whether there should be an Islamic center this close to the sensitive site of the 9/11 attacks. The project’s sponsors explain that the project is designed to promote understanding and peaceful co-existence between Muslims, Jews, and Christians. They say that it is named after Cordoba because that city in Spain was a place where people from all three faiths lived in peace a thousand years ago, after the Muslim conquest of Spain, but before the Crusades.

Former House Speaker Republican Newt Gingrich said: "It's not about religion, and is clearly an aggressive act that is offensive.” Commenting on the project's name, he wrote:

"Cordoba House" is a deliberately insulting term. It refers to Cordoba, Spain–the capital of Muslim conquerors, who symbolized their victory over the Christian Spaniards by transforming a church there into the world's third-largest mosque complex... every Islamist in the world recognizes Cordoba as a symbol of Islamic conquest.

Many opponents of the Mosque have labeled it a “victory Mosque”, celebrating the 9/11 attacks.

Essay 6 Outline: Theme: Geography – How humans change their environment Throughout global history, human societies in various nations and regions have changed their physical environments to meet their needs. Societies have built structures, removed vegetation and resources, and modified the land to meet their needs. These changes have often had different results.
