JUNIOR FAIR Dept 106 Horses*ATCP 160.56

Judging Begins Sunday 10 am, Danish and Regular Judging, Horse Arena Posters and non-animal entries available in Dept. 110 Veterinary Science. Make sure you read ALL “Rules & Regulations” in front of book! CURRENT YEAR COGGINS TEST IS NEEDED. Please bring ORIGINAL and 1 COPY. Copy will be kept on file, original returned to you. Project animal breeds are: Light Horse, Draft Horse, Miniature Horse, Pony, Donkey, Mule and Hinny. Open to all exhibitors enrolled in the 4-H horse/pony/animal related project, Horseless Horse Project, and FFA/FCCLA members. Each Jr. Fair exhibitor must attend 1 verbal clinic plus 1 riding, halter or showmanship clinic with each horse they plan to exhibit at the fair. (If exhibitor shows 2 animals, then 3 clinics are required.) Each Jr. Fair exhibitor or a member of their family must attend and work at one of the scheduled “work nights” in order to show at the fair! All horses and ponies to be shown and judged on Sunday must be in the barn by 7 p.m. on Friday and remain there until 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Draft horses are to be brought in on Sunday, shown and then taken home, unless room is available. The Therapeutic Riders may contact horse superintendant for stall needs. An individual may exhibit 1 or 2 project animals at the fair. For each project animal, exhibitors may enter 1 class in which the animal is judged and 1 class in which the exhibitor is judged. (See table below.) If an exhibitor has 2 animals, he/she cannot enter the same exhibitor judged class with two different animals which includes any Equitation, Showmanship, Reinsmanship or Horsemanship class. (An example is that someone cannot ride in pony and horse equitation, because both of those classes are actually judging the same person-the rider.) Another example would be they cannot show both animals in showmanship classes. A person COULD show one animal in showmanship and the other in equitation.)

A managerial project is where the animal is owned by someone other than the exhibitor or their immediate family. The exhibitor must be involved in the care, training, and showing of the animal starting June 1. No stud colt born prior to January 1st of current year may be shown and will not be allowed in the barns. Pony height shall be 56” & under, but no Purebred registered horse of this size may be shown in a pony class.
