Staff Development Plan Social Behavior Group Troy Ferguson, Christine Matthews, Robyn Smith, Stu Harder 2012-2013

Objectives:

- To develop a seamless continuum of social behavior services - To support the districts with the use of research-based behavior curricula and interventions - To support districts with the placement/reintegration process for all Federal Setting 4 placements - To support the districts in gaining legal knowledge and usage of conditional procedure documents and guidelines - To support districts in the use of the exclusion/dismissal guideline and the manifestation determination process

Data:

Tier 1: o Increase active participation at the building level to enter data into the TIES data system consistently and use this data for decision-making. o Assist buildings in effectively using Office Discipline Referral (ODR) data for all tiers, and positive behavior interventions school-wide. o Provide technical assistance with TIES. o Assist buildings in using AIMSweb Behavior Module for decision-making. Students with academic AIMSweb accounts will automatically have a behavior account. o Provide technical assistance with AIMSweb Behavior. o Provide AIMSweb Behavior Module training – This training is specific only to Special Education Teachers who have students with behavior goals in their IEP - 8/14/12 (Rush City High School)

Tier 2: o To support staff in effective progress monitoring for students receiving standard treatment protocol interventions. This includes using appropriate measures as well as interpreting data to determine instructional needs/changes.

Tier 3: o Provide one social behavior networking group for elementary and secondary, including Federal Setting 4 programs. TBD O Provide ongoing support for Federal Setting III programming within all districts. o Establish a consistent process within districts with the documenting and use of restrictive procedures. Districts will follow the restrictive procedures guideline and use the restrictive procedures review committee as necessary. All Behavior Intervention Plans allowing restrictive procedures are to be approved by the committee. Instruction:

Tier 1: o Support buildings in using school-wide positive behavior systems in order to support all students. Facilitate discussion of the SCRED social behavior team’s roles and functions at the Unique Learners Conference (ULC) – 8/21/12

Tier 2: O Support general educators in researching and implementing empirically and data- supported instruction for groups of learners identified as needing additional instruction through screening data.

Tier 3: O Provide on-site coaching for schools using the Boys Town Model o Create a consistent flow within special education federal settings of service for all students. This includes out of school placement and re-entry to the mainstream school setting o Support staff in implementing positive behavior intervention strategies based on Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA’s), in order to create appropriate goals, interventions, and sound decision-making on an individual student basis. O Provide a one day Boys Town Training for increasing verbal intervention skills and strategies (For staff working with students within the classrooms and resource rooms) – 8/9/12 O Provide a one day Boys Town Training for staff working in Federal Setting 3 and 4 programs – 8/10/12

Problem Solving:

Tier 1: o Provide training and support for general education staff use of verbal interventions. Provide Crisis Intervention Trainings on the verbal intervention skills as needed – Refreshers: 5 August, 1 Winter - TBD Initial: 8/15/12, 1 Fall - TBD

Tier 2: o Problem Solving Training that is inclusive of social/behavior (as well as academics)- Offered by the Instructional Services Coordinator five times throughout the year – TBD

Tier 3: o Provide ongoing refreshers of non-violent crisis intervention to social behavior teams o Provide a clear process for staff regarding suspension/expulsion and manifestation determination procedures. Districts will follow the exclusion/dismissal guideline and manifestation determination guideline. These documents will be posted on the SCRED website under Special Education - Social Behavior.
