2014 United States Masters Sunfish Championship

1. RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2013 -2016.

2. NOTICE TO COMPETITORS 2.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at regatta headquarters at the Bow to Stern Sailing Center.

3. CHANGES IN SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 3.1 Any change in the sailing instructions will be posted before 0830 on the day it will take effect. 3.2 If there is a conflict between the NOR and the sailing instructions, the sailing instructions shall govern. This changes rule 63.7.

4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 4.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed on a boat’s mast in front of the club house. 4.2 When flag “AP” is displayed ashore, “1 minute” is replaced with “not less than 30 minutes”. This changes RRS Race Signals.

5. SCHEDULE OF RACES 5.1 There are 7 races scheduled. 5.2 On the last day of the regatta no warning signal will be made after 1500.

Race schedule Friday May 30 1600 – 1700 Registration All day Practice on your own. Saturday May 31 0800 – 0930 Registration 0930 Skippers Meeting 1100 Warning signal for 1st race. 1830 Dinner at the Village Restaurant in Oriental. Sunday June 1 1000 Warning signal for 1st race.

6. CLASS FLAG 6.1 The class flag will be the Sunfish class flag.

7. RACING AREA 7.1. The racing area will be in the Neuse River beyond the bridge and Oriental harbor entry channel.

8. THE COURSE 8.1 The courses are windward/leeward with turning marks left to port. 8.2 Pennants flown from the signal boat will indicate the course. Pennant one signifies once around, pennant two signifies twice around, and pennant three signifies three times around.

9. MARKS 2014 United States Masters Sunfish Sailing Instructions

9.1 The windward and leeward turning marks of the course will be inflated orange cylinders. The offset mark at the windward mark will be a small yellow cylinder.

10. THE START 10.1 A series of short blasts shall precede the beginning of each starting sequence. 10.2 The starting line will be between staffs displaying an orange flag on the signal boat at the starboard end of the line and. an orange flag on a committee boat at the port end of the line.

11. THE FINISH 11.1 The finish line will be between staffs displaying an orange flag on the signal boat and an orange flag on a committee boat at the starboard end of the line.

12. TIME LIMIT 12.1 The time limit will be two hours.

13. RECALLS 13.1 The race committee shall attempt to hail premature starters. Neither failure of the RC to hail, nor the racer to hear a hail is grounds for redress.

14. PROTEST 14.1 Protest forms are available on the official notice board. 14.2 Protests must be filed with race officials within one hour after the time of the signal boat docking. The time of the signal boat docking will be posted on the official notice board.

15. SCORING 15.1 When six (6) races have been completed, a boat’s score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 15.2 One (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series.

16. SAFETY 16.1 Before the first warning signal of each day all boats shall sail past the stern of the signal boat on starboard tack and check in by hailing their sail number. They shall continue to do so until their hail is acknowledged by the race committee. 16.2 Any contestant retiring from a race or leaving the race course prior to the end of the scheduled racing is requested to notify a race committee boat. Should he be unable to so notify, he is to notify a race official ashore as soon as is possible. 16.3 All sailors shall be required to wear a United States Coast Guard Approved PFD at all times while on the water. A racer may remove the PFD temporarily while adding or removing foul weather gear or related equipment. Flag Yankee will not be flown, this changes RRS Race Signals.

17. PRIZES 17.1 Trophies will be awarded on the grounds after racing on Sunday.

18. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY 18.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The Oriental Dinghy Club, Bow to Stern Boating, and the Ensley family (parking property owners) will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta. 2014 United States Masters Sunfish Sailing Instructions
