Directions: Complete the following activities to learn how the Spanish successfully settled Texas and claimed it for Spain.

Part #1: Missions and Presidios (textbook reference: pages 120-127) Assignment: Make a Map showing the location and at least two facts about the following missions: (see example) and also using the inset map (page 121, identify the Native American tribes of that areas which the mission comes in contact) *Corpus Christi de la Isleta/El Paso de Norte *San Antonio de Valero *LaBahia *San Francisco de los Tejas *Los Adaes

Part #2: Life in the Missions (textbook reference: pages 128-132) Assignment: Write a Journal Entry (3/4 page minimum) as if you were a native living in a Spanish mission. Your entry must include: -Daily routines -Problems -Interaction between natives with priests and soldiers

Part #3: What happen to the Missions and Relations with the U.S. (pages 136-139) Assignment: Write a bullet notation a separate paper, label what happened to the missions after the Marqi Rubi visit to Texas, discuss the impact of Texas frontier policies to include Tejano reaction, Antonio Gil Ybarbo, and relations with the Texas Native Indians

Part #4: Filibusters and Unrest in Texas (textbook reference: pages 143- 147) Assignment: Make a Newspaper Front Page showing filibusters in Spanish Texas *Must include a minimum of three filibusters *Articles must identify goals and results of each filibuster *Must be in newspaper front page format

Part #5: Mexican Independence (textbook reference: pages 148=150) Assignment: Create a Short Story (foldable) as if you were telling an elementary student about how Mexico won its independence from Spain and the wars impact on Texas . See example of how each page should be titled.
