Reading is Groovy! Peace…Love…P.A.R.P. ! Calendar of Events March 1-March 31, 2016

Friday, February 26 th -“Preparing to Read with PARP Day!”

We will have a "soft" introduction to our PARP program at the Beehive on February 26, with the reading teachers introducing the nightly reading slips so the kids can begin bringing them in starting on Monday, February 29th. On Friday, February 26, students and staff will be asked to wear a shirt or hat containing words for today’s “Preparing to Read with PARP Day!”

Friday, March 4 th - Official PARP Kick-Off

Our official PARP program kick-off will be at the Beehive on Friday, March 4, where the PARP song will be introduced. Also featured during the March Beehive Assemblies will be the ever so popular staff competitions and relay activities. Students and staff will be asked to wear tye dye or multi-colored clothes to “Get Groovy with PARP” and celebrate today’s PARP kick off.

Friday, April 1 st - PARP Closing Assembly

Our closing Beehive Assembly will be on Friday, April 1st, at 2:00 pm with another staff activity. Perhaps Mrs. Dansa will appear in her dynamite costume. Students and staff will reprise the PARP song as well, and will be asked to wear clothing inside-out today to show how reading with PARP has turned us inside-out! Peace…PARP...Prizes!

All students will be receiving PARP “Peace…Love...PARP” reading slips. As they read at home, they will write the name of a book and the number of minutes they have read on the ticket. The tickets will be brought to school, and students will deposit their “ticket” into the special box located at the school’s main entrance. Every morning three tickets will be drawn from the box, and the students’ names will be announced on the morning announcements or at the Beehive Assembly. Students will come down to office immediately following announcements to receive a groovy prize!

We are in the process of ordering books with Bookfair dollars provided by our PTA for each child to receive a book at the end of the program. Thanks again to our wonderful PTA! In addition, the PTA will be ordering prize books for students who have completed a grade level hourly goal at the end of the month. More information to follow…

Groovy Guest Readers

Mrs. Mobley and Mrs. Seeley are coordinating virtual guest readers via a secure/password protected link on youtube and will have more information to follow. Please see them if you are willing to video yourself reading a book. Readers will be asked to pose two follow-up comprehension questions to students who will view the clip.

Bulletin Boards

We will not be doing linking announcements this year. However, teachers and students are welcome to decorate the classroom door to celebrate our month of groovy family reading! We would ask that perhaps grade levels responsible for bulletin boards during the month of March connect this year’s PARP theme into bulletin board displays for the month of March. Read a Tee Shirt/Read a Hat Days

Staff and students will enjoy special “dress up” days. On Friday February 26, students and staff will be asked to wear a shirt or hat containing words for today’s “Preparing to Read with PARP Day!”

On Friday March 4, students and staff will be asked to wear tye dye or multicolored clothes to “Get groovy with PARP” and celebrate today’s PARP kick off.

Finally, on Friday, April 1, students and staff will be asked to wear clothing inside-out today to show how reading with PARP has turned us inside-out! CHORUS: We are Blasdell Bees

To get our share of library books high hopes we have for the future

And our goal's in sight
