JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Social Enterprise Service Co-ordinator NJC Scale Point: Pt 22; £19,621 pro rata Hours: 7.5 - 15 hours per week (negotiable and subject to funding agreement with B&NES Council) Annual Leave: 26 days (pro rata) plus statutory and bank holidays (1 Additional day after each year of service, up to a maximum of 31days). The role is split between our ‘hubs’ in Bath and Midsomer Location: Norton, but with a requirement for regular travel as required across North East Somerset Contributory pension scheme (employer’s contribution 7% to a Pension: minimum 3% contribution from employee). Accountable to: Social Enterprise Development Director Responsible for: Social Enterprise Service Volunteers / Peer Workers

Principal Purpose of the Job

To deliver the Social Enterprise Service for Adults with Mental Health Problems in North East Somerset and (on a trial basis) in Bath. The service provides support and opportunities for people with mental health needs to be actively encouraged to participate in and/or initiate social and community enterprises, meaningful occupation activities (including volunteering and Time banking) and education, training and employment. The post holder will be the sole member of staff delivering the service and will be responsible for the full range of service delivery; the emphasis is therefore on co-ordination of volunteers/mentors and the establishment of peer groups and other self-sustaining initiatives, rather than direct delivery of support.

Initially offered on a temporary basis as sickness cover, there is potential for this to become a permanent contract in due course (subject to funding).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Engagement: work to engage clients (including ‘hard-to-reach’ clients) into the service, including through encouraging referrals from partner agencies.

Job Description & Person Spec – Social Enterprise Service Coordinator 2. Signposting: provide information (including through groups) aimed at informing clients of available opportunities to participate in ETE, volunteering and social enterprise activities.

3. Facilitate peer groups: seek to encourage the development of new peer-led groups.

4. 1:1s: individual sessions with clients, aimed at supporting the client to identify opportunities to participate that are of most interest/benefit to them and/or to develop initiatives of their own. (N.B. while this role will entail some element of 1:1 work with clients, for capacity reasons the emphasis is on linking clients with volunteers, mentors and peers).

5. Recruit volunteer mentors: for clients who wish to set up their own business or become self-employed, facilitate introductions to business mentors who can provide ongoing support on a voluntary basis.

6. Recruit other volunteers: working in conjunction with DHI’s Volunteer Coordinator, manage the recruitment of volunteers in areas/activities identified as adding value to the service (e.g. volunteer drivers to assist clients to get to/from relevant projects).

7. Support clients to access funding: encourage and support clients to submit applications to sources of funding for ETE and enterprise projects, including Quartet Foundation grants and the service’s own ETE/Enterprise Trust Fund. Work with the grant award panel for the ETE/Enterprise Trust Fund.

8. General: deliver all elements of the Social Enterprise Service for Adults with Mental Health Problems, either directly or through coordinating volunteers/partner agencies.

Organisational and Team Duties

1. To perform as part of the team, attending and participating in regular team meetings, attend appropriate training courses and participate in skills sharing sessions within the team.

2. To contribute to the development of operational processes and procedures likely to evolve over time in response to newly-identified needs/issues.

3. To participate in regular support and supervision.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

Experience of working with clients with complex needs (e.g. mental health problems, dual diagnosis, homelessness, etc), including experience of person-centred support planning

Clean driving licence, access to own transport, and willingness to travel as required throughout Bath & North East Somerset.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Flexibility, creativity, initiative and self-motivation

Ability to monitor and evaluate work

Excellent level of IT literacy in Word, Excel and databases

Non-judgmental

Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders to meet the needs of service users

Knowledge and commitment to Adult and Child Safeguarding principles and procedures

Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable:

Knowledge of social enterprises and services across Bath & North East Somerset – signposting ability

Enterprise development or mentoring experience

Volunteer co-ordination experience, experience working with peers, volunteers or mentors, or other transferable experience
