How to Find the File You Re Looking For

Welcome. This is the March 2006 revision of the OSAC-funded Emergency Procedures Handbook for American-sponsored Overseas Schools. There are a large number of small changes, plus one entire new chapter, Section 2, Chapter 14, on Pandemic Flu. This chapter includes a recommended rubric. We have also included, as appendices for this chapter, rubrics from several schools in different parts of the world.

What follows in this “read-me” document is the same as the file named: EPHS0FindingAFile.doc which is titled “how to find the file you’re looking for”.

The Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA), which developed the Handbook, administers a supporting website at http://www.ceesa.org/ephlinks.html and has included links throughout the Handbook.

We hope you find this material useful.

How to find the file you’re looking for

At the beginning of each file name, there is an alpha-numeric sequence to help you. Each of the main files begins with EPH, followed by an S (for “section”) followed by a number from 0 to 3, the Section of the Handbookl of which it is a part. (Section 0 is the title page, acknowledgements, etc., including this page. Section 1 is Communications; Section 2 is Specific Situations; Section 3 is Psychological Readiness.) For the documents in Section 2, there follows the letter C and a chapter number for the 13 chapters of Section 2. Then, if there are several files that make up a single chapter, there is a sequence letter. For example, S2C1C means the third file in Section 2, Chapter 1. Finally, there is a brief name to further help identify the file. At the very end, the anecdotes and “war stories” all begin with the letters “xtra.” Of course, any of these files you download and use for your own handbook can be renamed as well as rewritten.
