LOUISVILLE, KY- November 8, 2010- The 58th All American Jersey Sale, at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, KY, set a record high with the sale of the bull, Sunset Canyon Dominican-ET.

48 shares had been sold in Dominican at the beginning of the sale totaling $96,000.

50 shares total could be sold by the start of the Open Dairy Show Supreme Champion selection.

“It was an outstanding, record-setting night for the Jersey breed,” said Dan Bauer, sale manager and manager of Jersey Marketing Service.

Top end animals were consigned, and both buyers and sellers were very pleased with the sale, Bauer said.

65 live animals were sold at the 58th All American Jersey Sale. 3 bulls were syndicated along with the sale of 7 embryo packages.

Genomic evaluations were included with 25 of the animals sold. The newly introduced genomic evaluations were very influential in the sale this year.

Bauer included in his opening of the sale that, “we are in a genomic era,” when speaking about the importance of the genomic evaluations.

“This young bull has the highest Jersey Performance Index (JPI) in the history of the NAILE,” Bauer said about Dominican.

Dominican is the highest genomic tested bull in the Jersey breed.

“This is huge for the breed, and our farm,” said Eric Silva of Sunset Canyon Jerseys, consigner of Dominican, of Beaver, OR,

In the past, you could look at the dam and sire to evaluate the animal, but now you can look at the individual’s genetics, Silva said. -more- Full sister to Dominican, Sunset Canyon Headline Daffy 3-ET was also sold Sunday afternoon.
